Genetically, the population didn't change that much after the Turks conquered Anatolia from the Byzantines. The Turkish soldiers just intermarried with the local populations, like previous conquerors had done. There's no real difference between a Greek and Turk, besides religion....just don't tell the Greeks that.
ANd you are right. And about the Turk=Greek thing. I have only met one Turk in all my days and a number of Greeks, and it is
good advice.
