Well, this seems an obvious place to start: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/index.asp

And I'm surprised you didn't ask your family in Calgary

It's easy. Smash the windows of a couple of stores, set a police cruiser on fire and put on a Canuks jersey. That should get you through immigration really fast. :D

Joking aside, the cic's website is really the place to start.

Maybe the [shift] key is optional on some keyboards?

And Greg... if there are a million ways to get into Canada then surely you can pick one that will work for you.

Good luck with that.

Totally depends on your age, your work history, family, education, and the jobs that people are needed in.
The cic website Andy mentioned is step #1. Have fun reading!

Well, lot's of constructive suggestions in here

May I ask exactly what country you are from? My guess would be the US, based on some of the terminology you have used in your post (not that that's a bad thing, just an observation.)

As a few people mentioned, check out the link provided above, however it doesn't exactly show you where you should head. As others mentioned, it does depend on your qualifications, if you have family in the country, sponsorships, if your field of work is in demand in the country (or area of the country) and you will basically have to fill out a number of details to determine what kind of Visa you will may qualify for.

It is easier to apply for a Visa then to just jump right into trying to get Citizenship. Once you live in the country for a number of years under the Visa, you can then apply for Citizenship if you so desire, or remain as a Perm. Resident.

One thing my wife found out when trying to apply in Canada from Australia with our Spousal Visa stuff, was that there was a 3 year waiting period to hear if you get approval, which is why I applied to go to Australia, since theirs was only 3 months and there was more demand for my line of work there then back where I lived in Canada.

Be prepared to provide long written letters explaining your interests, your background history, the details of your parents, when and where they were born, if you have brothers and/or sisters, medical history..... you are applying using details of having a spouse or family within the country, they will require proof of that information, such as recent photos with you and them together, with explanations of when, where and all that good stuff detailing each photo.

You will also be required to submit at least two passport approved Photo ID's, a criminal background check (which you pay for) and most likely, you will also be required to prove that you have enough money in your bank account/saved up or other means to show that you can sustain yourself financially once you enter the country. If you have family sponsoring you, they will be required to submit these financial details and will have to accept full responsibility for your well being during that time.

For myself, my wife is legally responsible for me

You not only have to basically tell them your life story from the day you were born, not only have to undergo a medical checkup, and all of the other things noted above, but be prepared to dish out a good deal of money for the Visa application on top of all that..... somewhere around $2,000 just for the application itself.... more or less.

And then wait around 3 years to hear back if you are approved or not.

If not approved, you will not get any of your money back and there is no appeal process.

If you are approved, you will have a set amount of time to enter the country, which is based on the date of your medical check. If you do not enter by that time, you will have to undergo another medical check up and/or basically apply again.

To say the least, it's not a simple process.

My information on the Visa application is mostly based on the Australian system/government, however both systems of government and the process itself are very similar to one another..... my information is also based on information provided to me within the last year when I applied and moved to Australia at that time.

If you are actually serious in moving, working and starting a life in Canada, then be prepared for the above and best of luck to you.

I don't say any of this in sarcasm or to discourage you, but to prepare you for what you will be required to do, if you wish to do so.
