I would be happy if there was anything here that paid more than $8/hr. Hell, I would be happy if I got a different response to an interview than: "the elderly might not understand you because of your light accent" or "You're not in town, how are you going to get here in Winter?" or "sorry, we hired someone with more Canadian experience".

Wow. I didn't think that kind of bullshit was a valid reason not to hire.

It probably isn't, but apparently, they couldn't find a better excuse.
It's pretty frustrating tho...

If they came with something useful, something I could learn from, something I could change, than you wouldn't hear me bitch. But I just can't do anything with this.

I've heard that before too. Mind you, without "Canadian experience" nor a "Canadian education", but years of Dutch experience running a business.

He, another one that just came to mind again: "you have 2 children. We start early. How do you think you will do that?"
Euhm, I am up every day at 6, I think I can manage getting up at 5, if needed. You don't start before 7.30. What makes you say "early" and since when are my kids your problem?
When I mentioned I am up at 6 every day, they looked at me like my head turned backwards all of a sudden. "Why?" was the question :?

I have 2 children and a mortgage, and I cannot afford tuition off of $9/hr. FYI, childcare costs more per hour.

Sounds like some of that notorious Canadian bigotry to me. You ought to file a claim with the HRC.

Maybe if you took "Marijuana Cafe Manager" off your resume you'd do better!

But... but... I put up "coffee-shop in Amsterdam"!

Actually, I took off my only Canadian experience (at a lawyers office), when I found out he has a really bad name here. It did me more damage than good, letting people know I worked there, until I found out the way he runs his business...

What I found out here, is that if you are not related or not a friend of a relative, you just have a problem.
