I'm just curious to see if anyone else on this site has been directly affected by the recession.
personally I ended up losing a job in all this mess. Thankfully I've found a new one start tomorrow with even better pay but I'm curious to hear other stores.
Anyone want to share?

I've been lucky. Glad it worked out for you, though.

I've lost mine and I still didn't find anything else. When there is dozens of persons making application for a single job... that's hard.
Theres rocking and theres rocking with me.

Recession was pretty well a non event for us, except for some investments.

The recession is still very much here. GDP fell again in August and the numbers aren't expected to be good for September to November, given the dramatic fall of the US dollar. -3.2% for the summer was much worse news than expected. The labour market typically takes 2-3 years longer than the rest of the economy to recover from a recession. So, for a lot of people the prospects aren't likely to improve for some time.
But for me, personally, I've had only the sort of paper-losses Shep spoke of (though I expect my investment in Citi to become a real loss at some point).

I quit a job because the writing was on the wall, job share program and all that. I got lucky in a way, sent in a resume on spec to a company that had a fellow quit that day. Two weeks later....interview... gave my notice...one month later...I've moved to Grande Prairie and started the new job. The stars were aligned for me. Karma smiled.
Hope you have better luck soon Proculation.

I haven't been able to find a job since I quit from Timmies in 2007. The fact I live in Windsor doesn't help, but still. Even with my unemployment, I consider myself rather lucky, because, even with the shuffles at General Motors, my father is still working (albeit for GMAC). Nobody in my extended family has suffered either, except for my older cousin (university graduate) who can't find a job either.

My job is laregely recession proof, even though it's far below my education level, I'm still pretty lucky as well.

Nope. Slowed some which was actually welcome in that it's allowing us to update, refurbish and re-org after an expansion that lasted 3 years.

I lost my job in the summer and could only find part time work over the summer. Still, with EI, it was only about a 20% drop in pay. I've had several interviews, but most of the jobs I've applied for in the past 6 months have had at least a hundred applicants, if not double or triple that.
Still, I'm optimistic for the new year and hhope to have something before my benefits run out.

Recession? what recession? it still takes 3 months to get a reno job done that was supposed to be 4 days. Contractors can't keep up with the work and still can't find reliable help.

Mostly because of the home renovation tax credit. Not every industry is the same.
It is true though that I've heard a lot of talk about concern that not enough young people are getting into the trades. Prices will likely go up.
