No probs! Let me know when you are ready to go digital!

I will for sure!! I will probably be a little frustrated with the whole new technology thing at first, but will end up loving it in the end. I will be buying one for my birthday in January or maybe Christmas...depends new helmet for roadtrip or new cam for roadtrip :D

No you are not. 8)

I still use B/W film in my old Olympus SLR bought in '74.

Have all the Olympus lenses and filters from that era.

Still do the odd wedding when the couple want some nostalgic B/W prints to add to their collection.[/quote]

Who would have thought there were so many closet photogs on this forum! We should have a photography section where we can swap tips and shots.

You know that would be a really great idea. I didnt think there were so many on here either. I scroll through the provincial forums looking for shots of the areas of Canada, but a whole section would be brilliant. Especially, for Digital noobs such as myself :D

Put it to Trev. I would be quite happy to post shots with aperture, ISO, shutter speed, lens and body info.

Hmmm I might be in Hamilton this summer... that depends on a lot of things falling in to place however. I've always wanted to take a really good camera into a museam, I dont know what it is I can never take good pictures indoors with a compact.

For indoors work you either need a good flash or a good large aperture lens. On a rebel you could look at the very cheap 'nifty fifty' 50 1.8 II, which is ok but cheaply built.
A more useful focal length on a crop is 35 mm so you could look at the 35 F2 or the some of the "L" primes which are very good but pricey.

Compacts usually have slow lenses ( f4.5 and up) and crappy flashes good for 5-10 feet tops. They are ok in good light but the small sensors generate a lot of digital noise at high ISO.

That reminds me of the time my super expensive outdoor flash fell into the Rochdale canal. Water blew out the electronics.

Get used to not using a flash...there are alot of museums that dont allow flash.

Yep, fast lense is the way to go. I notice most of your stuff was long Tattood. I'm the other way, the longest thing I have is a 70-200 and rarely use it. I'm hoping to get more use out of it on a full frame sensor.
I mostly use my 16-35 F2.8 and my 50 F1.2, with the odd use of my 24-105 F4 and the honking heavy 24-70 F2.8.
