Keep a little memo pad with you and note what speed, aperture, lighting time of day...etc. when you take a keeper...it will give you a reference point for later experimentation.
All that info is embedded in each shot you take.
Eisen, a good book to get is "The new manual of photography" by John Hedgecoe. Well written with iso/aperture/shutter speeds etc on each picture.
I'm anxiously awaiting the arrival of the 5D2 (which has 1080p video) to replace my 4 year old 20D.

Yep they list:
aperture, shutter speed, ISO, time, date, lens used, actual focal length, camera body amongst the many!

Damn thats Brilliant!!...I am actually thinking of moving into the Digital world. I use a 35mm SLR, I am so oldskool, but I have seen some amazing pieces come out of a digital so I am going for the Canon....wrap it up and put it under the tree for me.

The one downside with camera is that it didnt come with any. Im going to have to do some hunting and find a program I like.
Photoshop Elements is a good starter program, well priced and has tons of cool features.
I usually shoot RAW and use the bundled DPP software, which is well thought of.

If you have used an SLR before I'd look at the 50D. Nice bit of kit.

I have only ever used an SLR...I will look into that, I also want to see if my Canon lenses will interchange. I have very nice equipment and wouldnt want to see it go to waste. I will still use my old SLR for speciality shots, like using it with infrared film etc.
I will look into the 50D though...thanks for the heads up

Tatooed,
Which lenses do you have? FD lenses won't work but EOS lenses will, u just get a crop factor of 1.6.

I picked up a book by Michael Guncheon, all about the features of the XSi, hopefully this will cut down my trial and error time.

I started by using AV and TV modes, then full manual. On b/w you are better to take in colour then change in DPP or photoshop. What lens did you get with it Eisen?

Not bad to start with. A 580 flash unit and a good tripod should be next for ya!
