Article i just read on Cracked.com
http://www.cracked.com/blog/5-cover-son ... originals/

I pretty much agree with that list, especially Hurt, but thought of a more myself.

Knockin' On Heaven's Door by Guns N Roses is waaay better than the original.

And under the heading "no one else has heard either version" I'm gonna say that Room 429 by Strapping Young Lad is better than the original by Cop Shoot Cop.

I'd have to say Heart's cover of The Battle of Evermore was better than Led Zepplin. IMO

I like Simply Red's version of "If you don't know me by now" far better than the original by Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes.

Phil Perry did (and still does) "In the rain" a million times better than The Dramatics ever did...

Heart's cover of Battle of Evermore is great... I agree.

Here's 2 covers by STP I think are better than the originals.

Dancing Days by Led Zeppelin

Andy Warhol by David Bowie

Uhhh, no. Axle Rose is the most obnoxious voice in the history of rock. It's more grating than fingernails on a chaulkboard. He sounds like Ethyl Murman with her tit caught in a ringer. His butchary of 'Knockin' on Heaven's Door' would be the very WORST cover in music history if not for the fact that he did an even more brutal chop-job of 'Live and Let Die'.

Any cover by Jeff Healy or Joe Cocker.

I don't know if it can be considered a cover... but...

Joe Cocker's version of With A Little Help From My Friends trashes the Beatles' version. UB40's version of Red, Red Wine is the definitive.

Jesse Cook did a good version of Fall at your Feet plus his remake of the old Dylan tune It Ain't me Babe is pretty good too.

I respectfully disagree. I agree with you in general terms about Axl Rose, but on this song I think it works. I think he got a lot more passion into it than Dylan did.

A German metal group did a great cover of Falco's "Rock me Amadeus".

Don't look at me like that.

Disturbed also did a great cover of Genesis' "Land of Confusion".

Note, not saying this is better than the original. But these guys do ridiculous covers. So much talent it's retarded.

Also, Dr, I love Disturbed's version. So sick.

Or this guy, from London Ontario, who recreates songs with only his voice. In-fucking-credible.

For all the crap they took for moderating their sound, Metallica's version of "Whisky In The Jar" blew away the Thin Lizzy version. And that mega-group version of "Tuesday's Gone" was arguably better than the Lynrd Skynrd original.

But for greatest covers of all time, no one even comes close to beating anything done by Ten Masked Men.
