Nobody gets arrested for simple possession these days. Those charged with possession are usually committing other, more serious offences and are found in possession at the time of that offence.

Simple possession means a conditional discharge at court so nobody gets arrested just for that anymore as it's a waste of everybody’s time. The article is using statistics that don't reflect the reality.

Yup, have yet to see a person with a first criminal conviction of simple possession in my jail. To add to EB comment about tacking the charge on for having it during the commission of a crime I have seen someone go to jail with it as a single charge if they have a decent criminal record already, basically a street scum criminal, and the cops use it as a reason to just get them off the street because they are always up to no good anyhow.

I will also note that the only votes that count are in polling stations, not Sun Media polls or Liberal conventions.

Glad to see some common sense and actual information on this non-issue.

These pot heads would love us to think that everyone who smokes weed is being thrown in jail for having a little bag on them.

It's always been the same really. People with an agenda will try and use the stats to justify their particular agenda.

Police have been all over grow-ops as a lot of them are in residential areas and by-pass the hydro/power source in a way that is dangerous. They also wreck the houses they rent/lease and cause other longer term hazards to the buildings they use.

Nobody gets thrown in jail for having a little bag of weed on them.

Released on Tuesday, the poll suggests 66% of Canadians are in favour of the legalization or decriminalization of marijuana

That's about twice as many Canadians supporting sensible drug policy as support Harper's dumb on crime MMS bill.
