Brenda Brenda:
Happy Easter! My first Easter in the snow 8)

(Why did nobody warn me that everything is closed? :?)

;-)

Canada is a Christian nation, and as such the two most important Christian holidays, Christmas and the Easter weekend, are granted statutory holiday status throughout the country. And as such, these days receive strict shopping regulations.

This may be different then the predominantly atheist nation of The Netherlands.

Your next statutory holiday to look forward too is Victoria Day, in May (May Long Weekend) where we celebrate the birthday of Queen Victoria.

Then Canada Day is July 1st, and then most provinces have a civil holiday in early August.

Funny part though, that Canada as a Christian Country, does not celebrate Ascencion day ;-)

FYI, Holland is a Christian nation. But stores are open at Good Friday, and closed every Sunday. That I found A&W closed was a shock though ;-)

Is everybody off tomorrow?

What is Ascencion Day? :? never heard of it...

What could be more important then:

A) Birth of Jesus (December 25th - statutory holiday)
B) Crucifixion of Jesus (Good Friday - statutory holiday)
C) Reserection of Jesus (Easter Monday - statutory holiday on federal level...most people work though during this day, except federal agencies)

Yeah, I just wikied Easter Monday...

Its only a federal statutory holiday, and as such only federal public employees get tomorrow off. Stores are open, schools are open, and so are provincial agencies.

So the Post Office won't be open, neither will E.I., or anything like that.

Acsension Day is the day Jesus went to heaven.

I think it is a disgrace to Christianity that you Canadians have not known about this. It is a statutory holiday in Holland. So is Easter Monday, and Second Christmas day, btw.

While they are religious holidays, many secular, non religious and some irreligious people celebrate them as family days, just like Christmas. The only time the Chinese fully shut down is for a few days during the Chinese New Year. The only things open are family owned and operated businesses like convenience stores and also some Western chains like McDonalds and KFC. Oh, and in honour of Easter we had rabbit for dinner.
