Really do we look like Google. Jungles by definition are dangerous and you want to wonder around alone. Next you will be wondering about feeding wild animals...

If you got nothing nice to say then piss off.

You my friend should heed your own advice, comments like this from a newbie will NOT, in any way, enhance your time here!

Well fuck you too you impolite piece of garbage.
As usual no good deed goes unpunished.

So go to Panama you chump, here's hoping the rebels catch you and eat you, alive if possible.

Wow I'm impressed.

But really do some research and don't go into a jungle without a guide.

You come on here, contribute nothing and only show up when you want to pick peoples brains for information that is readily available to anyone willing to get off your ass and looks for it. Then, when someone who actually participates on this forum gets tired of your incessant questions and makes a comment, you have the unmitigated gall to tell them to piss off.

Here's a suggestion. Why don't you shelve the non stop questions and contribute to the discussions being held here because. in case you hadn't noticed this forum isn't your own personal "ask Jeeves" page and your sense of self entitlement is getting more than a little tiring.

My point is, that person isn't forum police, if they don't like what I'm saying they can go elsewhere, no need to comment, same goes for yourself.

And for your information, I've helped plenty of people on other forums. I do so when I feel like doing so. I am fairly new to this forum and have not contributed as of yet. But a single contribution beats the fuck outta a thousand messages complaining at people for asking questions.

Well sunshine, I AM the forum police here, and I take exception to both of your remarks! It is definitely not in your best interest to be telling a long term member to "piss off" because they make a somewhat flippant remark. As for "if they don't like what I'm saying they can go elsewhere"....why the Hell should they have to go anywhere, YOU are the N00B here and many of these people have gone out of their way and have taken the time and effort to try answering your questions. People here have long memories and will not soon forget your attitude in your first few posts! You may have previously helped people on other sites, but so far all you have managed to do is to alienate many of the members here against you, and it's going to take a lot of effort on your part to change their opinions. If your attitude doesn't change you are in for a rough road ahead, so maybe it would be to everyone's benefit if you just went back to those other sites you were involved with previously. If you do decide to stick it out here then a definite change in your attitude and demeanor will have to be the first steps.

I was being in no way hostile until that un-needed 'flippant' remark was made. I asked a question on a Canadian forum because I was hoping to deal with friendly people, not people that start stuff like this with no provocation. If you decide to boot me off the forum or delete my post just for defending myself then so be it, delete my acct please because I've already been on other forums run by children that like to gang up on people just because they're new. There's plenty of other forums out there, you're not special.

For the record, I do appreciate those that have given me useful information regarding my questions but to those that have come here just to derail my thread(including the obviously mature and adult forum mod), well, I'm sure I've made my thoughts clear on that.

That's a lot to take on if you are not well used to it. As you probably know, some of these countries in Central America have alarmingly high homicide rates. Discussing the Falklands/Malvinas in Argentina will be the least of your problems - just mention Messi favourably and you'll be alright. My only remotely comparable experience is in South Africa where I always travel with the locals.

Isn't that special. I, like anyone else who tires of your lack of participation but incessant questions can go elsewhere How magnanimous of you.

Well here's a news flash nobody's picking on you because you're "new". They're picking on you because you insulted one of the members on here. I may not be the "forum police" but I don't like your attitude towards others who don't find you as amusing as you think they should so, I'll keep letting you know about it till you quit using insults.

Your poor attitude and lack of participation is doing nothing but pissing off people here and for the record I really don't give a shit about what you did or didn't do on those other sites because, on this one you've done nothing but annoy the members which, leads me to believe you no longer participate on them because of your attitude rather than childish admins.

We may not be special but, neither are you. So, you're more than welcome to take your incessant questions to another forum and allow me to be the first to wish you luck because, I really don't see you lasting much longer on a new forum than you did here. [B-o]

News genius, people new to forums don't start out with a hundred helpful hints to everyone else on the forum, that comes over time. I certainly hope that you don't run a business because it would fail if you bark at the first person that asks a few questions.

I was met with an un-needed 'flippant' remark so I replied in kind. Grow the fuck up and stop being a troll.

PS: Thank you Sunnyways, you've already been far more helpful than the vet troll that messaged after you.

Ya, I'm probably going to get banned. As I said before, plenty of forums out there, so no big. Getting chewed out for asking questions on a forum isn't making this forum the most attractive place to be in the first place.

Note for new members, don't ask questions, go use google. You may get a few friendly answers before having the forum vets flame you out like a bunch of children then ban you for defending yourself.

That looks like a lot of people to avoid.. How do I know who's who? "the Malvinas belong to Argentina" not really sure what you mean by that..

Then you need to read up on the Falklands War of 1982. Not saying you'll be asked about it but it's like going to Northern Ireland and not knowing much about the Troubles and then someone asks you a political question... 8O

lazarus102 lazarus102:
I looked up the volcano that you mentioned and the wiki states that it is currently closed indefinitely due to an eruption in April of this year with a 2.5k safety perimeter established around the erupting crater. If I'm being honest I still wouldn't mind checking it out if there was a way past the barriers and not a high likelihood of being caught or of severe punishment.

Thanks for the news! I was just there in March and it was steaming a little but no one was worried about an eruption! Crazy! Still, the restaurant I mentioned is a great place to visit.

lazarus102 lazarus102:
Also while you're giving safety advice, the bike I'm bringing down is a 2016 Honda. It costed me 8000$. Honestly I'm a bit paranoid about it getting stolen. What are the safest places that I could park it at night? I imagine in crowded areas during the day would be fine but at night those places will not be crowded.

I'd find something older and cheaper for the trip. Something you won't cry about if it gets stolen. That or just try not to stop in Nicaragua. Or Mexico.

Edit: Remember to buy insurance on your bike for each country you'll be driving through. Not having the proper insurance can land you in jail.

lazarus102 lazarus102:
As stated above, bringing my bike, this isn't one of those trips in which I simply fly to one place and explore a small perimeter. So with that said, will the ferry between Panama and Columbia accept vehicles?

Yes.

http://colombiapanamasailing.com/ferry- ... ry-status/

lazarus102 lazarus102:
"Highway 1 runs to Argentina I think. It does not end in Panama but probably turns into a dirt road in many areas."
Can this be confirmed? My bike is dual-sport, dirt roads would be no problem.

One more thing I would like to know. I have never made a trip like this and I will be on my own. I will be bringing a large hiking backpack but many times it would be a hindrance to take with me literally everywhere. So with that said, where could I safely/temporarily store my backpack at stops? Some may say "at your hotel" but this is going to be a month-long trip and I'd run myself into a hell of a debt staying at hotels all the time.

Thank you for any advice given and thank you to BartSimpson for the wealth of info above.

About safely storing things I'd suggest checking reviews for the places you're going and avoid the places where people say they got robbed. Hate to be simplistic but that's the way it is.

As stated above, given the information that I have from this thread, I will be avoiding Darien gap. My trip will be ending at Corcovado National Park in Costa Rica. That park has most if not all of the nature that I would have wished to see in the Amazonian jungle and without getting linched along the way.

I realize that Mexico is a dangerous place with a high homicide rate however, I want to actually explore a unique culture, not just a more racist and arrogant version of our own culture(the US).

Also, I was looking for more specific places to store my backpack along the way, like at the cities in Canada I might use a paid locker at a greyhound station. What kind of options would there be like that along the US/Mexican coast?

These days your average touroid is at more risk in Dublin than Belfast. Even at the height of Troubles foreigners were rarely targeted.
