Had to hit the army surplus store today in the city, got some extreme weather US mitts, complete with instructions on how to keep your trigger finger warm, and a set of US army crampons(not to be confused with "Manpons") and a huge bag to pack all my stuff.

Ive never used crampons, the string dont look very tough, maybe I should switch to what I have on my snowshoes which is lamp wick, same stuff on the old kerosene lamps, buy it by the roll and you have some good strapping for cold weather. I dont think the military uses shitty string like that to hold them on.

Lamp wick it is then, just need a bigger roll, unless any military people can tell me what they use.
I might have to do some modifieing to get them to fit the winter boot but they look like they will do the trick.

Last time started out as 4 in 2 out but we stayed for 7,thats as long as your allowed and you have to have 2 weeks off.Hope its only 4 because 7 was a tad long last time. Actually they can make you do 6 weeks plus whatever travel days it takes you to get there and home,so 4 travel days = 4 more they can tack on to the tour. From the looks of that video Nuna has started on the road allready, hope they hurry, the faster they make it to the mine the faster I get a camp trailer to sleep in instead of a tent. :o

Finally made it to camp, nice balmy 60 degrees in my tent. Was stranded at Baker for a few days and the chopper never made it so it was 10 hours of halftrack and bombi over the tundra, thought they were going to use dogsled for the last leg. 8O -21 now, cant wait for the longer days as its black out right now at 7:00.Im the only original guy from the last crew, wonder why. 8O 8O Think i'll tuck the laptop in my sleeping bag,its nice and toasty and will make a good footwarmer. :o

Just like you see on TV,pure white with nothing to see for miles except blowing snow, the odd cariboo, some arctic hare and a few wolves, still havent seen a muskox.

Lots of clothes and your nice and toasty no matter what. Thought it was cariboo rubbing my side of the tent last night but there was wolf tracks all over so he must have been checking out the new fresh meat. 8O The elders in Baker said it's the wolves that are responsible for the dwindling cariboo herds, not global warming. They say see all the wolves out there? Multiply it by 50 and thats why the cariboo are dissapearing.....interesting.

We got our furnace working,it had ice crystals in the fuel line, nice and toasty in the tent now.Was below zero in here last night. Nice day today,-20 with no wind, got my cat running and now try and get the backhoe running tommorow, all the cabs of the rock trucks are full to the roof with snow, any little hole and thats it,the wind fill it. Going to be -40 sunday with blizzard conditions so we want to get everything running as its been parked since last september when we left.

Then its an ice road for 18 kliks except were running the big rock trucks over the lake, not sure how fast they will be allowed to go but it wont be much packing 100 tonnes or more. Getting a kick out of the rest of my crew as its there first time up here, they didnt believe me when I told them there was no seats on the outdoor shitters and it go's into a 5 gallon can and garbage bag.

So far my cat and a hoe is all thats running, just snowmobiles to bomb around now on.

It's actually quite beautifull in its own strange way.
