In night mode it is on a timer and depending on how much light there is it can take 2 minutes a shot. There was lots of shooting stars that night but what you see is probably because of the extremely slow shutter speed. That was my view from my window every night and the moon comes up about ten miles farther west on the horizon every night.

With 23 hour nights coming soon the moon and sun come up in different places each day.

But every single sunset is awesome.

The timer I was talking about is the one you set and then run around to in front of the camera and wait for the picture to be taken. Even on a tripod if you use your finger to push the shutter button you'll get a little bit of camera bounce resulting in tails on a light source. Another way to get away from bounce is using a cable release. What kind of camera you got Zig? I'd like your 2 minute shutter deal, the longest I can keep my shutter open is 4 seconds in the fireworks mode. :D

I have 3 settings for my timer, ones 2 seconds which is good when useing a tripod and sometimes i get the other 2 screwed up.
My night mode takes whatever time it needs depending on how much light there is.
Havent tried fireworks yet because it did seem to be waiting for f.works and i didnt read the manual.
I use a flexible tripod as well as a solid one and recommend it as you can clamp your cam on to anything in seconds, called gorrilazpod and is $25.00 at the source.
My cams just a samsung digimax L50 2.8xoptical zoom,5.0 mega pixels.
I got it mainly because it had the biggest lcd screen at the time at 2.5 inch's.
But it's never failed me and was still doing vid when my hands were allmost frozen.
This is our kitchen.

Come fly with me,leaving discovery camp 15 miles north of Rankin inlet in a bell longranger this monday to get my flight home.
I love flying in choppers, love the sound of the afterburners kicking in,love the sound of the blades.
I love the Arctic and the people who live there and have been defending it for thousands of years.Yes boot, those rangers on their skidoo's and honda's could take out a sub.Maybe search sovop on youtube and see how the Mericans do with their fancy warfare tools.

Not very good,I would put my money on a ranger any day in that environment then some American military dude and they would too.

Operatin Nanook is focusing on 3 things.
1)deadly illness on a cruise ship
2)Terrorist on a cruise ship

and last but not least,
3)an oil fire aboard a Russian tanker.

Heh,way to go Harper and Bush.

So much for who owns the arctic.
They are introducing the terrorist fear factor up there now.

And some on this site are eating it up big time, too funny.

Just got this email from the camp cook, sounds like I got out at the right time.

Quote:
Hello Randy, how's it feel to be home? We had a wind storm for the past two days, high wind, rain, fog etc, you know. One morning Roger went to go in the shitter, when he opened the door it flew away across the tundra. All the extra toilet paper rolls blew out, making little white streamers all over. Not sure where the pail ended up it is still missing. I wish I had seen it, would have been quite funny. The wind quit blowing last night some time, so the drillers are now able to get the drill move started, This hole was the hole from hell, they never did finish it, and had to leave some rods in the hole I think. Some discouraged guys the past two days, the weather didn't help.
You'l be happy to know the roof stayed on the shitter, and it did stay upright. Hope you are enjoying some time off before the next job, cheers.
