Fuck you are dense. They have to rely on the Red Cross whether they have insurance or not. Your insurance agent isn't going to hoof it down to the fire and give you check to pay for housing and emergency clothing. In fact your insurance agent is never going to give you a check for housing, only the contents of your housing. It has nothing to do with poor choices, it has to do with people being visited by a sudden disaster.

We obviously deal with different insurers. Time for you to shop around!

One phone call to my insurer has resulted in immediate assistance.

Mine does. AAA in California is outstanding. When the PG&E pipeline in San Bruno blew up...

...AAA had people on the scene from their San Francisco headquarters the same day helping AAA members with checks for clothing, rental cars, hotels, etc. and many agents went above-and-beyond with one agent even taking a family in to her own home for a week.

Other insurance firms did squat for their clients because they wanted to wait for PG&E to settle up and that is still in the courts four years later.

AAA legally had no liability in this even yet they took care of each and every one of their members first and they're worrying about the settlements later.

And that is how it should be. The individual has more on their plate than it can handle in a situation like that anyway. Let the big guys stand up and help out, and figure the finances out later. THEY can handle it. The victims can't.

2 thumbs up to AAA!

I wonder how many people switched to AAA after that? I hope a lot. Most of these big businesses seem to do so well without providing good service it would be nice to see one get rewarded when they do. Might even encourage the others to do a little better...

AAA is owned by the membership with profits being paid back to the members as a premium (or discount) on their insurance policies.

It can be tough to get a policy with AAA when you first sign on but after you're on board it's pretty awesome.

Like they do not take new policies for drivers under 25 and their homeowner's policies can require compliance inspections for people in fire, earthquake, flood, and mudslide zones.
