Went looking for my copy of Amber. Got sidetracked by Alan Dean Foster's Flinx and Pip series. Didn't remember that they went to Midworld so now I have to find my copy of that. Then on to Amber

Fun how I remember these. I wonder how different they would have been written if gps and cell phones hadn't been sci-fi at the time.

Science papers, like usual. Just reading a newly published one from a bright Prof in the Netherlands. It's a new theory on Gravity that explains Dark Matter as: "gravity emerges from the interplay between and entropy re-arrangement of sub-atomic "strings" that live in a negatively curved spacetime. At that level spacetime and gravity are emergent from an underlying microscopic description in which they have no a priori meaning."

8O

Yea, I struggle too. But the theory is intriguing, and this same Prof derived Newtons theories of Gravity from Quantum principals - so it's likely to be ground breaking!

"The Path Between The Seas" - David McCullough

About the construction of the Panama Canal. It's been a fascinating read and I've just finished the first part which was about the failed attempt by France to build a canal.

I had no idea that they'd poured over $1bn into the project over a century ago.

That was a HUGE sum considering that they were still rebuilding from the Franco-Prussian War.

I just started reading a book lent to me by a neighbor.

"The Subtle Art of not Giving a F*ck"
A counterintuitive approach to living a good life
by Mark Manson

(sorry, too lazy to look it up and post a pic of the cover)

It's hilarious so far.

"The Book of Letters I Didn't Know Where to Send" - Steve Patterson.

A bunch of letters to things like 'Gluten' asking it to explain itself, or asking who is responsible for 'Onions'. Each page is a letter to someone or something.

Hilarious!
