All of these character-driven cop shows remind me how much I like procedurals, where the show is about how investigation and prosecution work rather than how good the author is at making up gritty or wacky characters. That's the part that fascinates me: how society defines and defends justice.

I added them to my list anyway. The Bills has 2,400 episodes?! That's nuts.

Check this out: Law & Order: The Complete Series. 104 DVDs (!) for $451. $4.34 per disc, 97¢ per episode. That is both amazingly cheap and shockingly expensive at the same time. *dreams*

I'll go with Shep on the UK Life on Mars. I quite liked Ashes to Ashes too. Most cop shows are totally innacurate so I don't bother with them. These two shows were just very well written and funny.

Hamish McTavish was a good one from the 1990's with a Scots city cop going to take a up a spot in the Outer Hebrides. Very interesting.

Flashpoint / Rookie Blue. Sorry guys, they are just so way off base that they are funny without trying to be. Pure drama with zero accuracy.
Wasn't that Hamish Macbeth. And old Black Lake was in Sutherland. Now who needs a Secretary, eh! :D

The mists of time Fife! I thought it was the Outer Hebrides. Just wikied it and it's deepest Northern Jockland. I've spent quite a bit of time in the Hebrides and Orkneys.....it looked familiar!
