I think, NO. I think there is enough Scots who care enough about the union to keep it intact and that Alex Salmond is a snake oil salesman. Cameron and Milliband have now thrown the earth and moon to them to try to keep them to stay. I think its about time to consider an English parliament after the no vote.

There is an English parliament, but the thing is that, over the years, they decided to let the Scots, Welsh, and Irish sit in it.

Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland now have their own devolved parliaments with Scotland's set to gain even more power should they decide to stay. Holyrood passed that Scottish students receive free university tuition whilst English student must still pay £9000/yr. When that same option went to Westminster to pass similar for the rest of the UK it was Scottish MPs voting against it. It's this sort of rubbish that gives me of split mind. Part of me wants to tell them to get stuffed and go it on their own. It'll be a bad, bad hangover come next Monday should they decide to leave.

Some Scots feel otherwise. That's why this movement has so much traction.

The counter-response in England is rather fascinating. Most of the English population is tired of the whining coming from Scotland and have entered into a "good riddance" posture. As happens in a lot of the ROC when Quebec gets too whiny, the English response is getting harder and less accommodating. Scotland will not be allowed to use the pound as it's currency and almost all of the welfare that they receive will be cut off altogether. English activity will become restricted to a very few set of issues, such as maintaining existing naval and air bases in Scotland, but most of the activities London manages will come to a rapid end. Personally I think separation from the UK is the dumbest thing the Scots could ever conceive of, but who am I to interfere if they want to cut their own throats over some petty resentments.

Scotland is a net drain on the national treasury, yet they can't bear to part with their overly generous social programs. They're definately left in comparison to the rest of the country. They seem to feel that the rest of the UK (mainly those damn English) have mistreated them over centuries. Their separatists seem to be pushing for some sort of sovereignty-association (which the UK won't do) rather than actual independence.

If they spoke French, they'd be Quebec! :P

And some people in Quebec and Alabama feel the same. They're all wrong.

Meh don't much care about their motivations anyway. Just their goal.

Just noticed the map says 1916 for Ireland when it should say 1922. Any more errors?
