I have developed a disdane for media etc...
Perhaps it is from seeing those being decorated for trivial matters, in many cases because that was what they sought and then those whose signal exploits/contributions were ignored and neglected.

There is a lot of wisdom in that signature...

What are the criteria for the Veteran medal? The description says Person who has served in the military and is no longer in service. Or was in any war prior and including the Korean war, but a former RCAF member says he wouldn't feel right about accepting it because to him, a Veteran is someone who has been in a war.

I'll respect his wishes and not nominate him, but I wondered if others felt the same way.

I feel the same way as he does.
I served in the military, but I haven't been in combat or served in a warzone, so I don't apply the term to myself.

He isn't alone. Some are indifferent to it. Site medals only have as much importance you want them to have.

I understand where this person is coming from.

It is sort of a smaller version of veteran plates for cars. Not sure how it works in other provs but here in NS, you can get one after doing a 3 year stint, hell, you can get one while STILL serving. That has always rubbed me the wrong way.

If someone who has put in their twenty wants one, then all power to them. They spent twenty plus years of their life serving their country. Putting up a veteran's plate to honour that service is plenty fair.

If he served,he should get the medal. If it's the person I'm thinking, then he more then deserves it.
