I've just finished reading a book about the Dieppe Raid. The author explains that, of all the faults in Operation Jubilee, the fighting spirit of 2nd Canadian Division was never lacking. As a way to explain the enviable reputation - hard fighting and unbowed - built up by Canadian troops in the First World War, the author relates the following gag/story:

A sentry patrols a busy stretch of trench. He hears approaching feet.
"Halt - who goes there?"
"7th Warwickshires."
"Advance, Warwickshires."

Then more steps.
"Halt - who goes there?"
"20th King's Own Scottish Borderers."
"Advance, KOSB."

And so on. Then another set of footsteps.
"Halt - who goes there?"
"Who the bloody hell wants to know?"
"Advance Canadians."

Didn't Axis Sally taunt the Canadians in the UK by saying the easiest way for our boys to get to Berlin was to tell them there was an open bar there?

Ikea... where you there at the Tudor House for the brawl that made the national news in 91? I remember our chief storming into the class the next morning asking if any of us had been involved.....deep silence from the 6 out of 8 with busted lips and black eyes...ROFL.....and his "so long as you won" as he left the room 8)

It must've been a good brawl! Ah...the good old Tudor House....our drinking grounds! I remember getting the boot from here a few times for having one too many. We use to go there on Wednesday's after sports and on Friday's if we had sliders. I just arrived in Esquimalt in the summer of '91 from my 3 year tour of duty with the Canadian Embassy in Seoul, South Korea.

Hope to visit the Tudor House and the Colwood Pub in Aug this year when we're there for holidays!
