Being Rememberance Day tommorow, aside from the Thousands of servicemen we will be remembering, do you have any family members/friends in particular you will be thinking of? I will be remembering my Great X 2 Uncle (Photo in Gallery) KIA WW1, my Great Grandfather WW1 deceased, my two grandfathers, one a Wireless Air Gunner in 415 Sqn WW2 RCAF (deceased)and the other Royal Canadian Artillery WW2 (still with us), my great uncle Royal Canadian Navy WW2 and Korea. I know I have several other great uncles that served in both WW1 and 2, but I don't know much about them, but I will certainly be remembering them all!!!! WEAR A POPPY and respect the two minutes of silence!

Tomorrow's national Remembrance Day ceremony in Ottawa will be the first in history not to have a World War I veteran present.

There are only five Canadian veterans of the Great War still alive, with the average age being 103. Paul Metivier of Ottawa died in January at age

To be fair, there are a number of Remembrance day threads around.

I'm not sure if there's a thread like this yet but... Someone ought to make a thread for all members to talk about military experiences in their families.

My grandfather passed away last year. He was a Sgt. in WW2. I've never heard any stories about what he did, or where he went. I think it was too painful for him to talk about.

I know I've posted this link in other threads, but check it out....

Allrighty then...That's what happens when you write too many essays at once, your brain turns to mush.

On that note. There really is no military service history in my family. The reason for this is that all the members of my extended family are Mennonites of either German or Russian descent. As a result, they either fled from wars or refused to participate in them. Two or three of my Dad's family were either in the HitlerJugend or Volksturm against their will so I usually don't make that sort of service count.

That song is also linked on the Legion website.

As for your Dad, mine was the same. Wouldn't talk about it. But this week, there's been a show on History, "Bomber Boys", about modern 19 year olds who's fathers or grandfathers served in bomber squadrons, who are reliving their Fathers WWII training in the place they trained (Camp Bolton).

It's at least given me perspective on what he wouldn't talk about.

My oldest brother fought in World War I; he died in 1978 from a heart attack.

I am thankful God helped him fight his way through Europe so that I could grow up getting to know one of the greatest men I've ever met.

I will be remembering him.
