It's only a rivalry when both sides care about the issue, I dont see to many Americans actually acknowledging there was a second British and American war.

Was it really a second war or the final phase of their spat with Mummy?

Both I suppose, but they did have a valid complaint about the press ganging of American sailors.

That was pretty much an excuse. The Yanks thought it would be piss-easy to walk in and take over while the Limeys were fighting Boney.

They were wrong.

There were Order's in Council in effect dealing with the press-ganging before the first shots were fired in the Niagara locale. The War Hawks in Congress cared not.

St Isaac of Queenston organised the Canada's into a reasonable defensive stance and the Yanks did a good job of convincing the Colonial types that being British was preferable to being American as they burned farms along the border.

Press on the York Volunteers...

Only because the Yanks were nasty. Buggers. Don't forget who invaded whom.

We get accused of making too much of the War of 1812, but the Americans do that with a lot of the things in their history.

We can allow ourselves a little leeway in that regard.

. But the dead were from Kentucky. Kind of like vermin control for the Native People who done the deed!

That video is wrong. The song was by 'Three Dead Trolls in a Baggie", not "The Arrogant Worms".

Pardon the correction. Most Americans don't care about history and even fewer care about the War of 1812. It's mostly history wonks like myself down here who think that this was an important event in US history. I think the importance of it is lost to current generations for the good reason that no one looks at the UK or Canada as an enemy.

Have to agree, most Americans don't even know there was such "war".
