God I'm tired of that label.
As if it isn't bad enough, that I have to contend with the stereotypical misconceptions and prejudices of Non natives, I have to contend with the racist crap of my own community, because I chose to go against the Native grain.
I choose not to lump all "white men" in one group. I choose not to accept the status quo of some of the corrupt leaders, I choose not to be a "hands out" kinda 'injun', I choose to see past our past and use it as a spring board to the future, not an anchor, to our demise.
So why does that make me an "apple"?
And to those of you, that have called me that, Fuck You. You are what is wrong with our community. Not me.

I've heard a few times. For the most part it is a dead label, but when someone says something like...
"I think Micheal Jackson has a tanning bed for you to whiten your skin" or something to that effect, it's pretty obvious what is being said.
Red on the outside, white on the inside.

Or maybe iyaroak? (apple of the eye)
Funny how the Innuit dont have any words for indian and one for whiteys(khabloonik, kablooneuk) Try as hard as I can and cant find any stereotypical words in their dictionary for rascism.
Ann Meekitjuk Hanson says it best,"I grew up knowing myself as an Inuk — simply translated, a human, breathing being".
Once we all figure out that were all just beings with different colored skin, maybe we can understand each other better.

CDNBear...Although it's been a while since I heard that term I understand how you must feel. Natives think that you must all fit into the whoa is me ideal and become dependant upon government hand-outs and welfare. To go against that stereotype and make something of yourself is an insult to those who are too lazy to make anything out of themselves but would rather whine about what they think they are entitled to.
Those that continue to feel that they are owed something for past wrong doings will soon realize that the money tree is dying and sooner or later they might actually have to get a damn job and do something with their lives rather than blame others.

I discussed this with some of my asian friends, they said that they use the term Banana for an asian person who acts white.
Yellow on the outside and white on the inside.
