Ok so they just aired the Canada bit and silly me, I started crying when I heard the national anthem!! ARGH. lol
Give me a break, I haven't been home in 3 years and I haven't heard the anthem in that long so it brought tears to my eyes. Especially when they did that clip that showed the natural scenery all the way through to the west coast!
Overall I thought it was great, but what was that song Avril sang?

Don't feel bad...it's an emotional turn of events. It was expecially great to see the Men's Curling Team and Cindy Klassen carrying the Canadian flag for Canada. More important....The Governor General of Canada was in attendance and the Mayor of Vancouver accepting the Olympic Flag considering he's handicaped and in a wheel chair! Outstanding!
Really not sure the song Avril sang....wasn't listening that closely!

It's been a fantastic show. I was wondering when that tall Italian mermaid-like lady was walking around if it would turn into an Italian game show.
I liked the ice-fisherman stomping around, but tuned out when Avril was singing. The national anthem was very impressive, he sang it very well in both national languages.
I was wondering what the world thinks of us when they hear our anthem and they see that we are forward-thinking enough to elect a quadriplegic mayor of a major city.
I can't wait for 2010. I just checked, again, - tickets won't be available until late 2008.

It was a great show. I think that was a song Avril made up for the event.
I'm still wondering where they dug up Ricky Martin.
Anyone know who that singer after Andrea Bocceli was?

Altho it should be mentioned that while many of them TRAIN here they dont consider Calgary their home.
Havent been able to hunt down any news about the protestor who interrupted the speech of the President of the Italian Olympic Commitee...
Anyone else run across any?

Calgary plays key part in Olympic medal count
calgary.ctv.ca
POSTED AT 6:53 PM Sunday, February 26
Our city played a key part in Canada's record medal count this year.
Of the record 24 medals won by Canada in Turino, Italy, 19 of them were from athletes who train in the Calgary area.
Since our city's Olympic legacy from 1988, where Canada won five medals, our count has improved at every winter Olympics since, helping transform Canada into a winter Olympic contender.
The Olympic Oval has paid the biggest dividends with 12 medals in 2006.
Five of them are from Cindy Klassen, who when she's not on the road, is training at the Oval.
The Canmore Nordic Centre is also producing, it helped groom medalists Sara Renner, Beckie Scott and Olympic champion Chandra Crawford.
Back at Canada Olympic Park, the track helped train medalists in bobsleigh, and skeleton, including gold medalist Duff Gibson.

If ANYTHING it shows that the legacy left behind in Calgary after the '88 is still GROWING......just THINK of what CANADA can do AFTER the 2010 games with even more world class training facilities......
And it WAS just an honest question......
chill......
