One of the most talked-about segments of the show was the apparent skydive into the stadium by Daniel Craig as James Bond and Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

Apparently, when the games close, the 'petals' that form the Olympic Cauldron will descend again and each participating country will be given one to take home. What they will do with them is anyone's guess.........but a cool idea just the same.

Canadians Add 2nd Bronze Diving Medal

Image
Quote:
Canadian divers Meaghan Benfeito and Roseline Filion added Canada's second medal of the London 2012 Olympic Games on Tuesday, finishing third in the women's synchronized 10-metre platform competition.

Benfeito, of Montreal, Que., and Filion, of Laval, Que., put together a superb list of five dives to earn 337.62 points on the way to their bronze medal.

Just one small slip -- a slight under-rotation in their fourth dive of the competition, the back 3.5 somersault -- marred their second Olympic appearance as a synchro pair. Benfeito and Filion finished seventh together at Beijing 2008.

Chen Ruolin and Wang Hao finished in first place on Tuesday to continue China's sweep of diving's gold medals, while Mexicans Paola Espinosa and Alejandra Orozco captured silver.

Canadian divers Émilie Heymans and Jennifer Abel also picked up bronze in the women's 3m synchro event on Sunday.

"What a start for the diving team," said CTVOlympics diving analyst, Blythe Hartley, an Olympic bronze medallist in her own right. "And they have so many more great performances to come."

The London 2012 diving competition continues Wednesday, Day 5, with Alexandre Despatie and Reuben Ross competing in the men's 3m synchro event. The diving duo finished fifth together at the 2012 World Cup, and picked up gold at the 2010 Commonwealth Games.

Antoine Valois-Fortier has won Canada's third bronze medal at the London Olympics.

The 22-year-old from Quebec City defeated American Travis Stevens 1-0 in the men's 81-kilogram judo event.

It's Canada's first judo medal since Nicholas Gill won silver in 2000.

The medal came within 30 minutes of Canada winning a bronze in synchro diving.

Canada now has four total medals, all bronze.

Valois-Fortier was 4-and-1 in his early matches.

He defeated Elnur Mammadli of Azerbaijan, Euan Burton of Britain, Srdjan Mrvaljevic of Montenegro, lost to Russia's Ivan Nifontov, then beat Emmanuel Lucenti of Argentina in the repechage to reach the bronze medal match.

Nifontov later went on to win the other bronze medal. Kim Jae-bum of South Korea won gold, defeating Ole Bischof of Germany.

Valois-Fortier's most recent win came May 20 at the Orenburg European Cup where he won a gold medal.

He elso won bronze at the Pan American Games in Mexico last year.
