WTF?? You think all Canadians can do is play a freaking game of Hockey??
No wonder you are embarrassed in SK. No wonder you think Canada has lost its roots.

(Dinner was good though )
What the
That musta been some real good dinner. Either way, opening ceremonies were ok, The National Anthem could have been much better. Could have been the Edmonton Oilers Hockey Crowd, they f'ing rock.

OMG that lighting was HORRIBLE! And then Wayne driving down to Coal Harbour to light the outdoor flame was so slap dash, had the protesters camped there it would have been pandemonium! Just lucky they managed to get it lit.

are there any other Canadians other than 'first nations?' not according to the 21 Olympiad opening ceremonies.

VERY cool, Pimp! Thanks for posting that!
The Edmonton fans DO rock. That's reminiscent of one of the playoff games with Anaheim years ago, where the fans belted out the anthems loud and proud (and very sportsman-like) after a very childish and negative reception by the American team. Gives me shivers.
The Anthem was not as bad as I was expecting, but it could have been much better. Awesome Opening Ceremonies though, except the technical issues at the end and Gretzky hanging on for dear life in the back of the Pickup for what seemed an eternity. The Lighting effects were fantastic and various parts were all very well done.

Then what was with the performances by Nelly Furtado, Bryan Adams, the opera girl adn that Frnech guy? Or, you know, that whole tribute to Canada's celtic heritage?
But yeah, it's not like Gretzsky, Donald Sutherland, Bobby Orr, Julie Payette, the poet guy and all those mini speeches from earlier Canadians even happened...
- Opening: snowboard, pretty cool, but didn't capitalize on the energy that it created, anthem was sung terribly - Native welcoming/dance: meh - Sarah McLachlan: performed quite well - Fiddle: I like that a lot, even though the tap dancing was a bit much, Ashley MacIsaac was great - K.D. Lang: beautiful voice and an excellent performance, looked like an Elvis impersonator - Opera lady: DO NOT WANT - Quebec singer who I've never heard of because Quebec rarely exports art outside of the province (except metal and cirque de soleil) : pretty good - Torch lighting: LOL way to go - Gretzky's 10 minute truck ride and the fans chasing him: see above forgetting some stuff but this was the stuff that stood out
The light show was amazing, some of the performances were amazing, everything else was bad. I feel pretty disappointed. Also I raged a little when that tubby poet referred to Canada as an experiment.
I just got home from the absolute crazyness all over downtown, mostly granville st and robson square. Headed to the streets right after watching the ceremonies and the fireworks over Canada place from my apartment. Never seen the city this alive and so much outward patriotism. There was a laser/fireworks/balls of fire show and then watched a free concert.

i think those ceremonies re-enforced stereotypes for the world. Epic fail on the anthem, torch lighting and what was with the O.J sprint in the truck? it was like watching the chopper footage from a LA car chase.
While there were parts I did like, it was way to heavily 'first nation' dominant and was there any other Canadians there besides the french?
some good but it doesn't take away from the epic failures that dogged the entire show.

Loved it! Could have done without Garou and the opera singer, but otherwise I thoroughly enjoyed it. The light show, the fiddlers, and k.d.lang were superb.
