City council may have adjourned for the season, but our mayor has been as busy as ever. Here, a recap of his adventures so that you can catch up before council returns to work.

I dont understand why some people hate him? He wanted to get rid of the street cars and he was right. They are blocking three lanes, cause accidents and highly expensive to maintain

They hate him because they don't agree with him or his policies. Nothing new there. Hell there are some who hate him because he's obese but that's another story.

The left who are supposedly so tolerant appear to be even worse than the right when it comes to hating anyone they didn't vote for especially in Toronto.

Rob Ford is a fiscally responsible right-wing mayor in a city of money hemorraging left-wingers. He's arguably one of the best mayors that Toronto has had in recent memory.

Yep. The broohaha over Christy Clarke saying she'd rather be a 'MILF' vice a 'cougar' is something similar.

Oh give us a break and spare us all another right-wing victimization sob story. We've had so-called "fiscally responsible" right-wing politicians that didn't generate the controversy Ford does. People despise Ford because he is simple-minded, uneducated, ill-mannered and acts like spoiled teenager. He's not just a right-winger, hes a right-wing jihadist who believes he is justified in telling bald-faced lies to support his actions (example: "Toronto has more libraries per capita than any city in the world") and thinks anyone who is not on his team is a socialist agent.

The city turns in a small surplus each year of approx $200M, give or take. Did so under Miller, still does so under Ford. BTW, Ford isn't really "fiscally responsible" when he's cutting fees that bring revenue to the city all the while claiming that essential services have to be eliminated because the city can't afford them. There is nothing "fiscally responsible" about that - it is pure and simple ideology: Eliminate all taxes and services and become the mayor of New Mogadishu.

Ford is probably the WORST mayor Toronto has ever had, the fact that he happens to be conservative has nothing to do with it.

BF, Ford has become the beating boy for the Left led by the TorStar. Pretending it isn’t so is pretty disingenuous.

The amount of articles on him in the Star is just amazing, all negative too. The Star is the unelected opposition of the Toronto City Council.

Drunken CBC 'D' Listers wait outside his house to pounce and others swap notes on anything they can dig up that remotely looks like a go in civil court.

Pinky play-wrights put on plays to personally attack him in front of the intellectually superior types that look down their noses at fat white guys.

It’s all very intolerant and personal.

Personally I think he's a plonker but seeing the level of vilification focused on him is quite telling.

Beaver, you're being very disingenuous with your commentary; as most anti-Ford people are. If you can't see the media swarming around Rob, you've got the blinders on pretty tight.

Besides being a fat sweaty mess, what has Ford done to make him the WORST mayor Toronto has ever had.

It certainly isn't how he's dealt with the the finances or the union contracts.

Yeah, a pile.of dung attracts maggots. Doesn't mean its.jot a.pile of dung. Ford's STYLE is what's done him in (both in the media and ongoing legal issues), not he fact that hes conservative.

And again,.the jury is still out on whether he is truly fiscally responsible. Just because you cut some costs doesn't mean you're responsible. He also cut the city's revenues which has the exact OPPOSITE effect on the city budget

So besides his poor image(style), that's why he's been a bad mayor?

His style hasn't prevented him from doing anything at City Hall. He's managed to cut costs, maintain labour peace and not tax the shit out of residents and businesses. Strange concept for Toronto mayor.

Just admit that your issue with Ford is his image. His results don't matter.

That's impossible, the left is amazingly tolerant and they will be the first to tell you.

2 things:

1) It matters that hes not just some bookish Stephen Harper-type Conservative. At least Harper and even Hudak -for all their flaws- read books and economic theory and plan things. Ford is just a cave-man, he doesn't know anything except "Tax bad, spending bad, smash unions!". That's why whenever he's asked to justify some oddball idea of his (see: Ferris wheel) he lashes out and accuses any doubters of being socialist infidels. He has no "vision", he only understands means not ends. During his integrity hearing, he told the court he didn't have to read city counil integrity policy because his dad was a provincial MPP and he learned everything he needed to know from him.

The difference between Ford and a real politician of any stripe is the difference between engineers who carfully knocks down specific walls while remodelling a building and a moron with a sledgehammer who just knocks down walls at random.

2) A few "acheivements" do not an impressive record make. Rob Ford's 2011 Surplus is less that Miller's in 2010 and 2009:

2008:
Projected in fall: $300,000
Actual, at the end of the year: $88,577,000

2009:
Projected in fall: $32,700,000
Actual, at the end of the year: $359,597,000

2010:
Projected in fall: $103,356,000
Actual, at the end of the year: $367,466,000

2011:
Projected in fall: $139,300,000
Preliminary, estimated in May 2012: $292,741,000

FURTHER: The city's NET operating budget has continued to increase under Ford. What supposed change has brought to the city after 2 years? None.

And again, Torontonians pay among the LOWEST...say again LOWEST property taxes in Ontario...certainly the GTA so will you can it already with the "Torontonians are taxed to death" tripe?????

Find me a councilor that reads everything he/she is handed when elected. Having worked for some of these guys, I'd guess not many read it.

A guess....at best. A guess based on your already biased views of him based on his image.

Besides the various cost-cutting measures and working with unions towards labour peace? Contracting out garbage? TTC essential service designation?

Your comments about the surplus are disingenuous yet again. You can make the surplus whatever you want depending on how much you take from your reserve funds. Miller was the worst for that, always using reserve funds to prop up his numbers.

BeaverFever wrote:

Yes, they pay the lowest (and are more dense, hence the lower rate) but that doesn't mean increasing taxes by 10% doesn't effect people. Toronto has a lot of seniors and low income earners. Tax increases, while necessary, should be done in tune with finding efficiently; something Miller nor those before were very good at.

So to put is simply, you really don't know anything about Ford, his processes or anything he does, you just see his actions in the media and think that he's a doofus who doesn't plan anything and just gets by.

You've made a lot of assumptions based on your biased impression of his poor image and that taints your views on how he manages his job.

Face it, Beaver, Ford has done things that no mayors before him were able to do. Union deals, cost cutting, low increases for taxes, removing taxes and making the TTC an essential service all while coming out ahead.

His only fault is his own stubbornness, his unpolished media appearances and the fact that he's obese.
