But just to be a good sport could you tell me what happens when a Country or province borrows so much money for it's unbridled spending that it can't service it's debt?

Well that's an extreme case and we're far from that ever happening. Bad things would happen if you bathe in boiling water, but that doesn't mean that you can't bathe in warm water, nor does it mean that bathing in ice water is better than bathing warm water as it's further away from boiling.
