You moved "TO" Toronto and not "FROM" Toronto?

God help you.

Where do I begin.

I was born and raised in Toronto but moved out to Whitby after I got married. I would never raise my children in Toronto. Gangs, crime, drugs etc made it unthinkable.

Apollo, are you serious? I bet there is as much noticable gang activity and crime in Whitby, than there is in Toronto. It really all depends on where in the city you live.
I grew up in the city, my mom grew up in the city, and the children that live in my neighbourhood are great kids. I would much prefer my children live either right in the city, or in rural Canada. The suburbs are like purgatory. There is nothing at all good about living in the outskirts of town. These are the kdis who get their license at 16 out of neccessity, and end up driving themselves and their friends through the Tim Hortons window on a drunken Friday night.

i agree with danimal. I would much prefer my children growing up in the city than in the burbs. Nothing could be worse for your mental health than living in the suburbs. Gah...how stagnant and dry Whitby is.
When you grow up in the city, you learn to understand people, culture, and harsh realities of life. But to debate your point Apollo, never in my life have i felt scared for my life or my well-being while on the streets of Toronto. I'd much rather gget to know the city than feed off of the urban economy and isolate myself from the realities of the society.

As much crime in Whitby as in Toronto? Surely you jest. There's a shooting almost daily in Toronto. I can't even remember the last time there was a shooting in Whitby.
y"
As far as having nothing to do in the suburbs. How about street hockey games like there used to be in Toronto. Kids playing outside and making friends. Neighbours stopping to talk to each other. Spontaneous BBQ parties.

The only street games I see when I'm in the city is "trip over the homeless guy game"

You must be kidding. I took public transportation for 8 years when I lived in Toronto. There would be dozens of people on every bus I was on and over 8 years I don't remember a single conversation between any two strangers.

Is this the type of culture learning you're talking about?

Frankly, I don't care what you think of suburban life. While your stepping over police tape to get past your local street, I'll be passing my neigbour a cold beer while flipping steaks on my BBQ.

Cheers.
