Does the army even want the guy? When some of them skipped, the army wrote them off and never want to hear from them again, especially when they try to cash in their GI benefits. Maybe these lazy bastards are looking for a handout from Canada instead?
If we let these guys in because they skipped out on a contract, are we going to let in other economic swindlers too?

good riddance. He is a deserter and should be treated like one.

economic swindlers? they are nothing more then people who diddn't want to go to war. There are valid explanations for why they ditched and signed up in the first place. Talk to any soldier for this war, and he will tell you that he had a lot of family members and friends and other people telling him or her it was wrong and some making valid reasons not to sign up and do it. What these deserters may have felt obligated to sign up one day, can change the next as they are being persuaded by there family and friends not to do it.
I know this because I plan to join the Canadian Forces and I have gotten nothing but talks about to not do it and pure dissapointment in my decision. Sometimes it made me not want to do, but I have always wanted to join the Military and a Soldier since I was a kid and that always slapped me back into reality.
Joining the Canadian Forces - Will be back

Of their own free will, they volunteered for the forces and all that entailed.

Well, if you change immigration rules, they should be changed for everybody. Even for refugees or deserters. Canada was not an easy country to get into, and now they changed those rules, it is even harder. Just because you are a US citizen doesn't make you a better candidate for adapting to Canada.

The people in your family are douchebags.

I can't blame him for not wanting to be deported to a country with such a dismal human rights record or for being used as fodder in its wars.
Throughout the world, on any given day, a man, woman or child is likely to be displaced, tortured, killed or "disappeared", at the hands of governments or armed political groups. More often than not, the United States shares the blame. - Amnesty International, 1996

Mr. Long should be happy. Now he gets to expose the system from an arena where he will get the most exposure, in the U.S. That is his wish right? To expose the war?

Quite agree tricks. I was going to say the same thing but I'm too polite. Maybe those advising Bacardi not to join the forces know him better than he knows himself.
