Meet Cynthia :D

She's a female Russian Tortoise that I just purchased this weekend after a very, very long ordeal since last fall of trying to find a seller. She's about 4 inches long, maybe a year old, and she's been eating really well - everything from dandelions to strawberry leaves.

It actually works out quite well that she's completely vegetarian and eats a lot of things that can be found at the grocery store - dark leafy greens like romaine lettuce, red lettuce, dandelions, kale, etc. I also shave a little bit of cuttlebone on the leaves so she gets her calcium.

She's cute. :D

6-8 inches for this species, the guys I bought her from said, which is good because some others that are sold as pets can get pretty big. I think they can live for 30-50 years.

Apparently half of what he made from the sale is given to a sea turtle organization, which is great, too.

That's awesome. The Hawaiian Green Sea Turtle is one of my favourites - they have suce serene faces - and like several others, they're endangered.

Cynthia should be with you for a long time then - congrats.

Turtle, or tortoise? I didn't get a turtle because you have to deal with keeping the water clean, etc.

I had snapping turtles and box turtles when I was a kid - the box turtles outgrew their aquarium so we let them live in the pond in the backyard, and the snapping turtles started biting the tips of each others tails, so we let them go in the river.

I learned last month that snapping turtles aren't actually that aggressive or mean, but they scare easily and try to bite if you get close because their plastron (the chest part of their shell) is quite small, so if they get flipped over their soft belly is exposed.

Fine. Tortoise. :) We just grabbed him off the side of a road and kept him as a pet for a bit. Ah, youth.

Awesome, dude. Congrats. :)

And I've had so many kinds of pets (temporary and long-term) that it's a wonder someone didn't try and "steal" some of them away. :P

Anyone here ever claim a Peregrine Falcon for a temporary pet? :P

I had a pet woodtick for 6 months,"Woody" lived in a pill bottle and was our mascot in my billiards leauge.

when an opponent was lining up for a shot I would say "hey, where did woody go"?

That would get them scratching.

Congrats on the new addition blue. Can they do tricks?
