You'd do well to remember Mark Twain's homily: "There's lies, damn lies and statistics."

Or one of my personal favourites: Torture the data long enough and it'll confess to anything.

This little article was a nice piece to read. We should be wary of immediately declaring that correlation equals causation, but Florida's laws seem to have worked well in this case. Good for them.

Oh, sure it is!

You don't honestly believe that you'd be better fitting? Hmm?

Have you even been called a "freak" before? A "psychopath"?

It's more then just mindless brilliant killing. You gotta.. Relate.

So, Tricks, I believe I'm fitting of this avatar. After all... Everyone thinks I'm insane.

Why does this upset you? Because I'm not like... You?

Canada should just ban all guns this way you guys are more European then American!

That seems to be the goal of many on here anyway.

I want Canada to have harsh gun laws this way we can just look next store and watch you crime run rampant.

I am in favor of making a thorough trial for peace, and if we fail in this and our state is invaded, to defend it with terrific resistance. "Deo Vindice"

You can't relate. The joker is an anarchist, you are a totalitarian. You are complete opposites.

Heheheh, I figured it was an insult. Just because I don't work gruellingly over Math textbooks doesn't mean I'm any sort of idiot.

Interesting....I'll have to cogitate upon that.

Not at all. Statistics can be valuable, but you have to be aware of when people are trying to use them to manipulate, as opposed to illuminate. For the record, I am in favour of the right to bear arms (though not the right to arm bears; they've already got long claws and need no further weaponry). However, I accept that more guns will likely result in more gun violence--I may be wrong, but most of the data I've seen seems to indicate this. My support for the right to bear arms is based on the fact that it is more free, not that it is more safe.

Good to hear from ya!

Thanks - I haven't been on here much lately - drama on Cybernations has been eating up a lot of my time - now that I'm handing the drama off to someone else I'm looking forward to being back on here more often.

Oh, and my favorite tidbit of wisdom on the right to keep and bear arms is:

When seconds count, the police are only minutes away.

That is a very good, consistent reason for gun rights. I think I am going to take it for my own.

I love coming down I-75 and just as you cross the Georgia border coming into Florida you see a huge billboard. It states.
Quote:
"Visitor Warning. Florida residents can use deadly force. Please be careful."

Being Canadian and living in the US I like the fact that the right to bear arms is a way to keep the government from getting too heavy handed. Hence the Declaration of Independence that they made to be rid of an authoritarian government in the 1700's.
I imagine that the people hold some sway if ever invaded by a foreign presence in that they can fight back if they decide to. The citizenry of the US will be able to be a civil disobedience movement if ever needed. Now that is highly unlikely to happen but lets say that a certain religion becomes so carried away in the US with it's views that is tries to cause mass chaos and an attempted take over. Then the people could in fact put such an uprising down and eliminate the enemy (some bound to be friendlies too). Far fetched scenario that it is it is possible only with an armed populace.

I also like the fact that I can protect my family with a gun. I am trained to use one and am quite good with one also. I think that everyone that carries should have to pass a test of competance and the ability to shoot straight and have basics on handling and storing or carrying a weapon.

Any offense committed with a weapon is and should be punishible by never being able to be issued one again. And that's only when you get out of prison at the age of 75.
