I lived in both countries, used both systems, and I find my healthcare service here in NY better than Toronto's
Truth be told I dont feel that putting the goverment in charge of healthcare is smart, look at the USA already we spend to much do you think this will change?
I think it should become 100% freemarket and the prices will lower cause thats what the free market does. With minor goverment regulation of course Edited for Flaming

Actually no. Our system is dollar for dollar exceptionally more efficient with more of the heathcare dollars going to actual healthcare.
Your administration costs are far higher with the need for large departments just to handle billing compared to the small ones we have. You spend far more money on advertising whereas we spend next to nothing and what advertising is done is done by the govt using different funds.
We pay less for medical personel to get malpractice insurance coverage, something that has driven doctors out of certain areas and certain specialties in the states (OBGYN is notoriously bad for that for some reason).
In my industry every single taxpayer receiving medical testing gets it far cheaper then in the US and far cheaper then a free-market system would support.
Last but not least we pay less in salaries so we save oodles there also.
Our systems are comperable yet we pay less then half you do per person. If we paid the same amount as the US our system would dwarf yours in a heart beat.
Where your system excels over ours is secondary care because yours is treatment based on payment whereas ours is treatment based on need and budget constraints.
The only thing that really matters is how Canadians can improve the system they want and let you Americans deal with your system how you want and if either side can benefit from how the other does it then so much the better.

I've dealt with you before and I'll do it again.
Live(ed), use(ed) both systems. Well, great, nice to know little bums like you exploit the system and move back and forth at will to your own whims and fancies. There should be limits to freaks who move back and forth across the border. Are you a dual citizen? If not, how do you "USE" both systems at will or are you accident prone and continously get into accidents? Great job.
You find your care better in NY? Great, stay there. Stop wasting border guards' times on saying "why am I going to Canada? To make fun of their health care which I use but don't like. The U.S is A OK....for medicare and Americare for people who can afford it, if they can't? Go die in the gutter.
I find my care better in Medicine Hat Alberta than Dallas Texas. What is your point? NY is better than Toronto? Maybe it is, maybe it isn't. I haven't been to either but comparing the two countries health care systems (which is a provincial jurisdiction and isn't subject nationally dummy) to two big cities is... well, hey its you...no offense to yourself, you try but fail.
Seriously, do yourself a favour and change your name because you give the actual term "Manifest Destiny" a good rap. It lost fair and square, you're just idiotic.

It is because it is a bit easier for NY to drain physicians from developing countries than it is for Toronto.

So this is your defense. Call me a freak. tell me to stay home, yeah thats all fine and dandy, but when I livED in Canada, I paid your high taxes, and was a legal resident, and was able to use your health system if need be. Never had to thank God. You know how often I think about healthcare? Almost never. Do you seriously walk around all day with a big cheesy grin because you think you have free healthcare? Are you sick all the time? Does the subject of healthcare seriously float around in the front of your mind all the time? The only time I think about healthcare is when I'm sick. I've been to the doctor once in the past 6 years, because I'm not sick very often, and I live in what you like to describe as a "Big, filthy, dangerous city." The visit cost me ten bucks and the medicine cost me another ten bucks because I have insurance. Your healthcare is also not exactly FREE, since your TAX DOLLARS pay for it, is it? Which is more beneficial to consumers? Giving your healthcare money to a private insurance company that's in competition with other private insurance companies, or giving it to a beleaguered government bureaucracy? So uhhhh... Time for you to dig your silly arguments for Canada's superiority out of a deeper, more creative bin.

A private insurance company that's in competition with other private insurance companies for the number of coverage claims it is allowed by courts of justice to reject.

And still, you can't bring yourself to focus or much less argue any of his points. I guess it shouldn't surprise me.

Well good for you. Guess what? The same could be said for nearly every single god damn Canadian. Know why? Because we don't need to. We know that it's there, and having the knowledge that our healthcare is there for free and will get us treatment takes it off our minds. I don't think about healthcare because I know I don't have to. It's there for me if I need it. The only things I think about are my bills, school, my special girl, friends, life insurance, and whether or not my band will "make it big". Healthcare is not on there because I simply do not need to worry about it. I'm pretty sure I speak for most Canadians when I say that we don't worry about healthcare constantly the way you claim.

Once again, good for you. What do you want, a cookie?
I'm 19, and I've only ever been to a doctor three times in my life, to a hospital twice(once against my will), and to a clinic once. But just because you and I don't see doctors often and don't have to worry about healthcare, doesn't mean that everyone is so fortunate. Millions of Americans have to worry about healthcare all the time. You and I should consider ourselves fortunate that we don't have to be in that kind of situation.

In all seriousness, then why is it a topic here at least once every two weeks?
Why when I lived in Canada it was a topic around the water cooler all the time?

Because what were once incurable diseases have become chronic diseases.
