An off-duty RCMP officer was arrested for allegedly breaking into a River Heights home while intoxicated on Thursday, said Winnipeg police.

An investigation determined that a suspect in an intoxicated state broke in through the front door to a stranger's residence in River Heights and woke up a person inside, said officers.

A neighbour told CTV News the suspect fell asleep on a couch inside the home.

The neighbour said the suspect believed he was at a hotel and even left his shoes at the door before falling asleep on the couch.

Winnipeg police responded and took the suspect into custody.

The 30-year-old male suspect faces a charge for forcible entry and has been released on a court appearance notice. His name has not been released.

I wonder why his name hasn't been released ?

I have a theory why, but since thats speculation I'll wait.

So once again we are to believe that this one police officer is a representative of the entire force, and his mistakes are reflected on the RCMP. This is getting tiring.

His job has nothing to do with this. He was just drunk. Simple. I wonder why his occupation was mentioned anyway. Unless "we" think cops can't get drunk in their spare time?

Actually, that is very plausible. I wouldn't be surprised if this was a "first offence" and out of character.

Reposting the same story with zero new details means nothing. His story is very plausible. It is entirely possible he was intoxicated and genuinely thought he was entering his motel room. I've seen it happen in residence where a drunk student went into the wrong dorm thinking they were going home.

The only thing Dig is pissing on is the fact the guy is a cop. If he would have been a mechanic, he wouldn't care.

If he'd have been a mechanic it wouldn't be news. It be a "man I was so wasted last night ..." story.

How many times does it take before "one police officer" becomes a pattern?

Seems everytime police do something like this its "An isolated incident" or "one bad apple" or "not representative".

Off duty cops doing dumbfuck things that don't involve violence aren't such a big concern to me. They should check this guy's IQ tho, and it goes to illustrate the point that the RCMP seems to be scraping the bottom of the barrel for its recruits.

You do realize that with every alcohol consumption, your IQ drops with 10 points?

Well in his case he must have been starting off one standard deviation below the mean even before drinking. I've done some pretty stupid stuff when drinking, but can't see myself breaking into a house thinking it was a hotel.

These 'Let's denigrate every Cop' threads are not only sickenly childish, they are getting tiresome as well. If 'anyone here' could possibly have a 'real reason' to 'hate' Cops. I would say that would be me! I have been beaten, clubbed, skull broken by unidentified officer, jailed numerous times, and done prison time. All because COPS arrested me. The bastards!
Truth be known, The Cops never bothered me when I wasn't breaking the law in some fashion! More to the fact, I was an asshole. For the most part, the Cops were just doing their job. I understand that I wasn't the most compliant individual they had ever dealt with.
To be sure, some Cops shouldn't be Cops. I've met a few of them! They just aren't 'cut out' for the job. But they are truly in the minority.

So for all of you 'bashers' here, let's have some FAIR INK. Research a couple of Canadian corporations with the same number of employees and post the results. Bet you are going to find a lot higher numbers of 'infractions' within those companies! But of course you won't take the time to do that. Will you??? Not near as much fun and doesn't boost your ego eh!
