In 2000 the NDP created ISC to replace the Land Titles office and to handle mining claims. Rates for filling a title are set by the government however ISC has gotten around this by issuing titles for ever smaller parcels of land. 160 acres of farmland may appear on 6 or more titles rather then 1 as what qualifies as a title is unregulated.
I think this half hearted attempt at privatisation by the NDP needs to be replaced. We need a return to full government control either by restoring the Land Titles Office; a private corporation, or ISC, could manage the data once it is collected by government: government must remain in control of land titles.
