Hi everyone

Manitoba or NB ? What do you think is the best ?

I live in Montreal, and I plan to move for 2 reasons :
- For my job : I have the opportunity to choose between Winnipeg and Fredericton, and get a better salary (40% more !)
- I'm fed up with the political instability and french language laws. (They tell me "101 or 401".... I answer "I choose 401"

So what province do you think I should choose ?

Depends on what you want. Manitoba is a beautiful province once you get out of Winnipeg. (Just kidding). There are gorgeous lakes and beautiful forests and lots to do. Summers are nice except for the damn mosquitoes and winter is ,well, winter. Long, fairly cold and unpredictable.

I grew up in Northern Manitoba and I am forever kicking myself for moving to Saskatchewan.

i've lived in both sk and mb...i will say that in the late 70s right up to the early 90s winnipeg was an awesome city and wouldnt consider anyother place...but urban decay set in and criminal gangs now run rampant so i'm glad to be out of there now.sure sask is much more prudish(the only province where you cant have strippers in bars) but my findings are medical care is far better is sask, govt agencies seem much more approachable and the job situation is much better..but thats just my experiences

I'm biased toward Fredericton. :D

Maritimers are very nice and hospitable. Very friendly and helpful, beautiful province, Acadian culture, but a tonne of fog. I only remember about 5 days of sunshine during my two and a half month stay/tour across the Maritimes.

Also, beware of the tails of Hurricanes, they can cause a lot of property damage...

Thank you for your replies

What about city life ? I just know about Montreal,Toronto and Vancouver (and Quebec city).
How would you compare Winnipeg downtown to Montreal downtown ?

And about "most (winnipegers) -ski- (with their) toes" ? How long is the mosquito season ?

I'm considering a trip to visit Winnipeg and Fredericton....just to be sure before moving

Manitoba for sure. I'm from northwestern ontario, the fishing/hunting is excellent, the mineral industry is booming. it's a good time to be up here, some parts of winnipeg are bad but the province as a whole is harmless. beautiful place

MB could be better for one thing : I just don't wanna be in the middle of a language war as it is in Quebec
I am allophone, so english or french is just the same to me, and I speak them both (although I think english is more useful...sorry for Quebeckers in this forum)

Is there a language war in NB as in QC ?

The positive point for NB is that it's on the east coast, so I could easily go to NYC, Boston, PA, and...Florida

For people kindness....I like to think that Canadians are nice people coast-to-coast

Winnipeg does have Saint Boniface which, I think, is the largest urban francophone population outside of Quebec. Winnipeg was a great city when I lived there but that was 20 some years ago so I can't really speak for it personally.

The rest of Manitoba is beautiful but then again from what I remember of New Brunswick it is equally beautiful. I guess the question is what are you looking for and why are you moving, ie. Job related, education etc.
