Lived in Winterpeg for over 20 years... grew up there. Was a nice place to grow up in, but the city has changed quite a bit over the years. In the interest of being fair, I'll give you the positives and negatives:

Positives: Great acccess to fishing in Ontario (Kenora) where at Lake of the Woods you have the best Walleye fighing in North America.
Good music scene... lots of bars with live music, especially heavier stuff which I like.

Negatives: Extreme weather - Freezing cold in the winter, and blistering hot in the summer. Bad skeeters - brutal. Terrible downtown area... lots of bums and gangs. Older city with few newer areas if you are looking for a nice newer house. The planners of the city have choked off newer development. If you plan to buy, look in the south end... no North end, whatever you do. If you are younger and trendier, you might like the Osbourne village area... I think the people that live there are freaks for the most part though.

I moved out ot Calgary a few years ago... this is the place to be in Canada. The economy is rockin, and you can make a fortune here if you are smart and get involved in Oil and Gas at some level. Whatever you do... don't live in this city (Winnipeg) too long, or you'll end up growing old and poor and wishing you took the risk, and moved into a city more conducive to making lots of money and having fun... like Calgary.

Hey guys it's the "REV" i was wondering where you went to.

Been taking some time off the computer for a change... besides being busy with family, friends, etc during holidays.

Gad, I can't wait to hear how this turns out! California to Manitoba! 8O scaree!

I moved from Montreal, Quebec to Regina, Saskatchewan and learned to love The Prairies and wouldn't trade south/central Saskatchewan for any of the cities along the 401. Even Montreal. You either love The Prairies or hate it. I love it now and consider it my home. Wouldn't trade the wide open spaces for any of your cities in Quebec/Ontario or British Columbia.

I'd go back to the Prairies in a heart beat, NFL not if you paid me a million bucks. I found the people of the Prairies won my heart, they are so friendly and easy going and an industrious bunch they are. Lots of good looking single farmers in Manitoba ladies. I love where I Live at the moment a small town that has all the amenities but I still miss small town Manitoba.

Stay out of Manitoba.

Seriously, its okay to visit as a Tourist, but after you have done all the Touristy stuff, uh.

God, counting the days to get out of this hell-ridden province with 8 months of winter.

Winnipeg is nothing special, just your typical urban sprawl with nothing special (like say Vancouver).

Can't wait to get out of here in 2 years, 4 months, and 14 days (yes I'm counting) and live in Beautiful British Columbia!

Why are all of you folks calling down Manitoba. There is alot more to Manitoba than Winnipeg. For those who have actually traveled more than 60 miles north of Winnipeg they would know that Northern Manitoba has some of the most beautiful areas that you can imagine. Manitoba is blessed to have one of the three true blue lakes in the world and some of the best fishing anywhere.

People who hate Manitoba because of Winnipeg haven't been anywhere other than there.

I live in Manitoba! lol. In the Southwest portion of the province. The Winters take up most of the year.

The lakes? Lake Winnipeg is dead! It has tons of ecoli problems.

Hmm, but I've never personally bin north of Riding National Park.

I just don't like the province, and love B.C. way more, and am taking university their for sure...

Well I've lived in both Manitoba and BC (Victoria), and from an economic standpoint I chose Manitoba to buy property in rather than BC. I went to university at UVic and the U of M and thought both were good schools.

The mosquito and winter thing are both detractors from Winnipeg, but the same can be said of most cities east of the Rockies. If you have a screened in patio for the the summer, and can afford to holiday in the winter, it's pretty nice. The boat and snow machine advice is pretty good though.
