With possible school closures throughout Southern Saskatchewan it seems to be time to ask if our current education model is appropriate for the current population of rural communities.

There will continue to be a rural economy and that economy will require labour, making rural education important. So what I think we should see is distance education tools such as SCN and Saskatchewan Government Correspondence School provide rural education though one room combined classes or even one room schools administered by local people, and since there are distance learning instructors there, the local principal would not require a teaching degree.

A full building would not be required if one is un-available, Town offices, Community Halls, even tavern basements could serve as simple schools much better long bus rides allowing children for homework and recreation time in large schools where children socialise in small groups anyways.

did you go to any meetings ? because thats an awesome idea . The schools are all awesome ...real eye openers and in great shape ....surprising that they would close . We are going to get some kids shipped here soon so we might suffer an imaginary growth.

This province is strange , it has much more money now and there is substantial construction and even some infastructure including new homes being built including the price of homes going up but the population is going down down down continuously ... [huh] :?

Cities are growing and small towns around Saskatoon and Regina are becoming suburbs but rurally the population is declining due to the agricultural economy. Rural people have to make do with less, however there are basic needs which must be provided and this seems to be a good compromise.
