confronting a situation that elicits this kind of reaction is one of the best ways of defeating it. If they can start to accept that soldiers and all things military are not things to be feared and are in fact a positive force then they are on their way to healing. I've lived and worked in combat and former combat zones(Somalia being the harshest) working with the local populace and specifically children. This is one of the best ways for the pain/fear to be conquered.
