$1: rate post If you can drive a car, pay taxes, and are permitted use a firearm you should be allowed to have a drink.
Not sure about the taxes but driving with a firearm and drinking is never a good thing.

adahen adahen: proudcanukchick proudcanukchick: Shouldn't the real issue be WHY are 14 year olds in the bar? Seems to me, raising the age isn't going to do anything until the parents start keeping track of where their kids are in the first place. At 14, you should still know where your children are, and the bar should NOT be on the list.
The other interesting point here, is why is it that when men get all hormonal, they use the booze as their excuse? If you can't control your actions when you're drinking, then maybe you should cut the problem off at the source. People who are 14 years old have right to consensual intercourse.Parents really do not have many right's over their children.Parents here just pay up when their child does something illegal. You are right they shouldn't be allowed to go in to the bars but they do. They are trying to make places like bars accountable for selling"too much" booze to their clients but it hasn't happened yet.. Alcholol is 99% of the reason for domestic abuse etc...
I'm fully aware of, and understand all of that perfectly.
But the bottom line is still that we are all accountable for our actions. Including the morals we instill in our children, our responsibility for them, and helping to ensure that they don't grow up to be irresponsible citizens of society. Not to blame alcohol for their actions on alcohol.

Of course all separately but I mean why do we have a big stigma over drinking? I think if we never even had a drinking age people might just become more responsible because the whole idea of turning 19 then getting wasted at a pub might end since you could go whenever or buy some wine and have a glass with your family. Just like teaching people how to drive responsibly and to use a gun. Drinking can be taught in a dignified self-controlled manner. But I doubt telling young people that you cannot have a drink until this age does much other than make them want to have it more. It is human nature for people to want what they can’t have so making all these laws just makes people think about it more and make a bigger deal out of it.

That's also an excellent point and I agree totally. That falls directly into teaching your kids responsibility. My parents let me drink at home starting at 14. Not heavily, not irresponsibly, but one or two here and there. Therefore, it was never a big deal to me. I'm strictly a social drinker now and I think that's largely why. They took the challenge away from me before it was ever there. I intend to do the same with my own sons.

Some people are born Alchoholic's and they should never drink.I used to think that allowing your children to have alchohol at home in a social setting was a good idea too Lol. Some parents even went so far as to allow them to have sex at home too as they figured they would rather let them do this at home then somewhere unsafe.Plus they could make sure they were using birth control methods.
By allowing your children to drink and have sex at home you are condoning their actions.
I don't think alcholol needs to be in our lives, and I will say something else having to support your children's ,children isn't a walk in the park either. Because even though your child can have sex with anybody after the age of 14 her parents are still legally responsible for her and the child.
When a kid is 12 or 13 they can have sex too but only with people who are no more then 2 years older then they are.

About raising the age to 21:
The age at which you can buy alcohol in the US is 21, and they don't have any problem with alcohol abuse and minors...

adahen adahen: Brenda Brenda: Men make themselves want to have sex. 18-years olds are not stupid people. Geesh, when I was 18, I lived on my own!
When you raise the age of drinking legally, they'll buy their own booze, and drink it somewhere where no one is around.
Maybe the age of entering bars with strippers should go to 21, but still, why?
Drinking and strippers in a bar are 2 different things, imo People do a lot of things they shouldn't by legalizing it you are saying it is okay. Men get more stimulation then they need when looking at strippers. The only province in Canada where having a stripper in a bar is Saskatchewan because of these facts. Soon it won't be legal there anymore. Stripping turns men more into the animals that they are and you mix that with booze...and it isn't 18 year olds that are in the bar then it is 14 year old's too. They should raise the age.
omg you are one serious prude
