Rev Blair made a suggestion once (back in the day) - Sask. and Man. should unite into one mega province. With Alberta/BC ascendent and "The East" as huge as ever, this might be a good idea. In simple terms, a prairie voting block with a severe streamlining of gov't. I'd even include NW Ont. in this.

They still wouldn't have enough seats to make anyone worried. That's the problem. I'd like to see BC holding back some taxes. That would wake them up.

What good would it do? As far as number of seats, probably not much initially. I'm thinking more in terms of services and economics in the sense that we'd have less government, shared services, and more to work with to create economic wealth. Create more wealth, more people move in to work. More people move in to work, more seats in the house.
Brenda, I'd even include the territories if they wanted to join.

I always thought northern Ontario should join Manitoba. I remember there was a campaign to do so because they felt they would be better represented.

I've heard NW Ontario feels more western than eastern before as well...perhaps with all the mininng and timber and ag and (ahem) oil, we could get something going for ourselves and not have to worry so much about equalization and all the rest of that? Just floating the boat here...

LESS Government, definitely less government. Make Winnipeg the Capital and get rid of all this huge overhead it takes to run two Provinces separately. I'm IN. Get some pigs out of the trough!
