The minority Liberal government has taken more royalties out of Hydro-Quebec (75% of its rents, instead of the traditional 50%) to finance a demand of the main opposition party (ADQ): i.e. a tax credit for families with pre-school-age children.

Quebec takes the money from Ottawa not because Quebec needs it but because Quebec doesn’t trust Ottawa for what it could do with all this money, if Quebec was allowing Ottawa to keep it.

Nope, you are wrong about that, too.

Quebec has been dead weight for a long time.

Alberta has, on a per capita basis, been Ottawa's largest single contributor. For example, between 1961 and 1992, Alberta paid $139 billion more to Ottawa than it received back from Ottawa. That is what it cost Albertans to be Canadian. *
And where did the money go? During that time frame, the province of Quebec, despite its large population and vibrant economy, was a net recipient of over $ 168 billion from Ottawa. Alberta was paying Quebec to be Canadian. *

If Quebec doesn't need the money, then why didn't you give it to the Atlantic provinces?

Can you imagine what would happen to Quebec finacially if they were left to their own? The PQ party when in power for the last two years declared a balanced budget but in fact it was something like 2 billion in the hole. They don't trust Ottawa .....riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight. I don't trust any government when it comes to money but even less the government of Quebec. Too much hand outs as election candy to make themselves look good, leaving the mess to the next government to clean up.

So far Ottawa has come up with a sensible budget, tho time will tell if it is, but at least it appears they made an effort. Present Quebec government are on their toes and have to be sensible, man just love these minority governments.

About Ottawa using Alberta royalties to finance Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA).
