Happy birthday Canada!!!

I just found this old print.
I don't have a scanner but I just bought a camera and this is the best that I got.
Don't know where to put it up so I thought, "Why not in this thread".
In the left foreground is my mother, father and me. :D

In the background is the HMCS Algonquin (R17) (I), a V class destroyer active from 1944 to 1970.

Those Canadians from Newfoundland remember their fallen on July 1st as it’s also Memorial Day in NFLD.

The Royal Newfoundland Regiment was wiped out at Beaumont-Hamel on July 1st 1916.

We will remember them.

Happy Birthday Canada, not looking too bad for 142 years old.

That shouldn't be too surprising because 142 years old for a country is nothing. Canada - which actually turns 144 this year - is a mere toddler. Canadians may see 1867 as a very long time ago but, to the British, it is recent.

England, which was founded in 927 when the Anglo-Saxon kingdoms unified after a gathering of kings from around Britain gathered at what is now the village of Eamont Bridge in Cumbria, celebrated its 1184th birthday this year, making it 8.22 times older than Canada.

The UK as a whole turned 304 on 1st May.

I've just realised my mistake.

England was born in 927, which means it is 1084 years old, of course, not 1184.

Older does not necessarily mean wiser, obviously...

It's all relative - Canada achieved confederation before Germany (1871) established its nation-state. What's also missing is that Canada was "born" only 262 after European permanent settlement.
