Cause you should be able to do ANYTHING you want in the name of protest.

Hope that pepper spray tasted good.

That's what you get when you use poorly trained university 'police' to deal with delicate public order issues.

In Canada OC (pepper spray) can only be used on subjects who are assaultive (as in want to fight ya) or are actively resisting (fighting ya).

This guy would be getting charged at least under the police act here and probably under the criminal code.

I find it hilarious that people are siding with illegal protestors and instead are more concerned about what the police do to stop it. Nobody died and unless you are majorly allergic to pepper nobody can be killed by being pepper spray.

If you don't want a face full of spray, then stop doing all these illegal protests, doesn't take much to get permission for a legal protest.

I looked into the California use of force laws after I saw this. They're vague as shit, and could probably be twisted so that this is legal.

So at what point do police stop being the kind gentle people when they ask you to stop doing something illegal and you refuse?

They gave them AMPLE opportunity to remove themselves. Too bad, so sad.

Yup, and about 2 full minutes of warning that pepper spray was coming out, all they did was shout "close your eyes" and "brace yourselves" repeatedly. The protesters are just looking for reason to complain about the system.

Oh come on, if you think that was an appropriate response by the campus police then I'd say you know sweet fuck all about use of force and proportional force and that maybe you should stick to topics where you have a bit more knowledge and authority.

Playing the right wing hack is what got you all the attention during the election.

I would assert that you as well don't know much about the use of force continuum.

I am leftist, I just have no patience for illegal protestors that try to play the victim card when they get peppersprayed/tazed for it. No matter what was done the security would have been turned into some giant corporation hell bent on cracking down on the protestors and abusing their power. All it takes is a legal permit to protest or even start a petition, if you break the law I have no sympathy for your bitching over something that is completely safe. It's all fun and games until reality smacks you in the ass.

Agreed. That being said, there seems to be a use of force issue here. That`s kinda the point of the thread.

The force used was excessive. This is a no brainer.
