A right-to-life group is trumpeting a poll that it says suggests most Canadians are uneasy about legalizing euthanasia.

Instead, it says they want people to have better end-of-life care.

LifeCanada commissioned the poll by Environics Research Group as part of its omnibus survey, which questioned 2,025 people across Canada.

The poll indicated 82 per cent of Canadians oppose the legalization of euthanasia when a person does not give consent.

It also found 76 per cent of respondents were concerned elderly people in abusive situations would be pressured to consent to euthanasia. And 74 per cent of respondents said that if euthanasia was legal, the sick, disabled and elderly would be euthanized without consent.

The poll suggested 66 per cent want the government to place greater priority on improved access to to end-of-life care.

What a dumb assed title by the "author". I have not heard ONE single person that was sympathetic towards the idea of euthanasia even consider it happening without express consent from the euthanizee.

I think one way to alleviate some of the potential worries mentioned though, would be to encourage people to make out a living will. Maybe even stipulate that a euthanizing can't take place without a pre-existing living will.

Far to many questions. Not enough answers for this to become a reality anytime soon.

What if it is an elderly person who is choosing to die at a time when they are surrounded by family?
