Okay, I don't know if you've lived a sheltered life, but Kraft Singles have been called American cheese in Ontario, New Brunswick, Quebec (especially Quebec, I find), and I assume you don't know any children, or parents of children.

Hell, even Wikipedia has an article based on American cheese.

I invite them in, and listen to what they have to say. Then I explain that wishing for the end of the world is bizarre, that teaching children that they are sinners is wrong, and that people can be happy without worshiping the boogeyman in the sky despite what they've been told during brainwashing.

I've lived in Québec most of my life and have never used the expression. I've never even heard people around here use it but I have always thought it refered to Kraft singles.

I'm glad this extremely stupid thread is now about discussing cheese. Much more worthy of discussing.

I've had American cheese all my life... I came across a package that said "Canadian cheese" once and loled...

It's so silly to be nationalist about fucking cheese... I want some 'New Zealand' cheese... Maybe some 'Nigerian' cheese. And what of 'Norwegian' cheese?

I do get the impression that American cheese is unhealthy though, like it's made with rubber or some dog-food filler

Man, it's sad to see how a joke can spin out of control on this forum.

Geez Andy I grew up in Van. Where do you think we got those cans of Danish bacon to take camping. Never once asked for Cdn bacon, you're right they call back bacon that in the US.
Funniest part was going to Blaine and buying the stuff under the American cheese section 2 Lbs cheddar for $3.99. Turn it over and it said "Western Family Foods, Calgary Alberta" on the label.
The burger franchises used to all mention American cheese and yeah it was those slices of processed plastic that vaguely tastes like cheddar.
Never noticed the few Muslim or Hindu kids here pick the bacon or beef patty from their burgers or off their pizza. Just like fish on Friday when I was a kid evolved into Cockney Kings next to the Safeway where the family did the weekly shopping.
This whole thread is just one of Bart's anti-Muslim trolls, who in hell would think "Canadians" support Shariah Law? Might as well talk about cheese.
Like McLarens cold pack Cheddar.... mmmmmm

I don't know if they still make it, but we use to buy an Ingersoll Cheese Spread, as opposed to Cheez Whiz'. It actually tasted like cheddar. Found a similar South African cheese spread here(unfortunately they no longer import it). My MiL used to make her own cheese spreads, using blends of real cheese.

I haven't found any REAL cheese here... Even the Gouda doesn't taste the same, since it is made in Salmon Arm

The milk, due to a different diet, and bacterial culture will completely alter the flavour of a cheese from region to region. We have European(French, Danish and British mostly) American and New Zealand cheeses to choose from. You can pick a similar cheese and they all taste different. i have to admit, I prefer an American cheddar(extra sharp) to an English cheddar though.
