Apparently, this menu has ruffled some Conservative feathers. The school told the Washington Post that the menu was "just a fluke":

The contractor that prepares school lunches randomly assigned an Asian menu to Dec. 7, and the subcontractor that prints the calendars automatically marked Wednesday at Pearl Harbor Day. "It was completely coincidental," said Ellis Turner, associate head of the school.

Although intentionally serving Japanese food on a day that commemorates one of the bloodiest foreign attacks on U.S. soil would certainly be strange and inappropriate, the Sidwell Friends' menu is barely Japanese. Last time we checked, dishes like "Classic Spinach Salad," "Szechuan Tofu & Veggies, "Vegetable Fried Rice" and "Fortune Cookies" are not particularly Japanese. The "Teriyaki Marinated Chicken Strips" and perhaps the "Garlic Roasted Edamame" are the only items remotely reminiscent of the country's cuisine. More interesting to us, actually, is how surprisingly tasty much of the school's food sounds.

Just a head's up - that's akin to saying what's the difference between Canadians or Americans...and if you say it to a Chinese person, expect to get knocked on your ass. Most of them are still quite pissed at the Japanese for not properly apologizing for all the war crimes they perpetrated in China in WW2.

Yeah, but that was my entire point. Blindly partisan ideological stupidity + pure hatred for Commie/Muslim/offWhite President = pathetic reactionary hilarity. It's like that old "All Things Scottish" SNL clip of Mike Myers as the grouchy old Scotsman:

Mike Myers had to write that, rehearse it, and then have it filmed. Some truly ignorant dumb-asses did the same thing for free because their empty little heads got filled with rage when they went "Pearl Harbour Day + Asian lunch menu + Obama kids school = TREASON!".

This can only be real because it's simply not possbile to make this up. It's not a product of satire, comedy, or theatre. It's only possible from mixing ideology with blind raging hatred. Which is what makes it funny. And incredibly sad at the same time.

Here's another one. Navy veteran who wasn't present at Japanese attack on Pearl Harbour vandalizes Japanese car on Pearl Harbour Day anyway, gets boot-fucked by angry car owners in response. Goddamnit, I am still so fucking angry about that war we won anyway, even though I wasn't even alive at the time!
