Damn it!!! The Mods are here.

Now I have to go back to being nice again... 8O

Well, we settled that. You only have to be nice to them. (And who wouldn't want to?) I mean I could call you a dickwad and they wouldn't do a damn thing about it. (I have learned from the master.)

If you guys weren't yammering at each other for something I would have left a long time ago because of the boredom.

So do you ever get tempted to yammer yourself? Or did the mods all go to Unsound's school of Zen?

Why do you think it's on the collective "you" to allow the rules to be broken? Outright trolling can always be reported, so stop "hoping" and hit the report button if you think it's serious enough. There. Duty done. Credibility intact and troll not fed. Sparring with the troll is merely stooping to their level.

Because, almost always, nothing is done about trolling; even when it is reported.

It also depends who does the flaming or trolling. If it's a long term member, you can be assured any reporting will be ignored.

No, that's keeping a soft touch which is what most here prefer.

It's clear the example of eureka is light years past telling a troll he's a troll and to stop trolling. Everyone who engaged in flaming with Eureka was a willing participant. If any of those participants were to hit the report button about what someone wrote and expected the staff to step in and smack down the perpetrator is flat out dreaming.

If hitting the report button worked, it would be used more often. Why do you think these posts turn into 10 page pissing contests? Members are doing their best to flame away at the trolls and those with an shit-disturbing agenda.

In the end, isn't it about making the forum a better place for adult conversation?

Ahh, CKA.

A pile of broken pieces making a whole.

OnTheIce, shouldn't we be adult enough to not only be able to have civil conversations without being parented by the mods, but also adult enough to not be so invested in forcing their hand?

Sounds like a sibling begging the parents to smack some of the other kids for them.

Do you imagine a forum only to yourself, since surely you are the lone individual who does not transgress?

What you call prejudicial, I call apt.

No, just the root cause, because that is so much better.

Debate jousting is something I am very practised in and it is acceptable.

Is that what you call it? Your 'debate jousting' was nothing more than that of an eight year old screaming and waving a sharp piece of Lego around at the other kids that are ignoring you and finding better things to focus their attention on.

Awwwwww......here, have a tissue and a lollipop. Is that better?

Because most of the time nothing needs to be done. If it were serious enough to warrant action, action gets taken. You've seen the warnings and the thread locks, so it's not nothing. It's just not to your satisfaction.

Check the mod logs sometime, it'll proven your assumption wrong.

Ahh, the other vague catch all complaint, if we only had a nickel for everytime we've heard that. The other complaint being mod bias...

Those who enjoy watching gas get poured onto the fire won't. Those trying to have a legit convo might. Those 10 page poo flingers happen because the the troll is getting fed. The ignore button, do you use it? Probably not. People like looking at car wrecks.

Really? Adult conversation on an internet forum open to virtually anyone? Good thing I didn't have a coffee going or else you'd owe me a new keyboard!

Ultimately, if you're not happy then you have to decide to stay or go. It don't matter to me one bit.

We should, but then there's people like andy that come to CKA with the sole intention to start shit. That's why there's moderators; because we have "adults" that never grow up.

The Dark Side is strong. So strong...

One thing I've noticed is that most mods don't participate like they did prior to becoming staff. Less gas getting poured on fires!

Of course it's not to my satisfaction. I don't see any sense in having rules that aren't being followed. They're followed only when the moderator feels like enforcing them depending on their mood and the poster involved.

That's fine, it's about what I expected after being here all this time and the main reason why CKA hasn't got a cent from me in years.

SprCForr wrote:

Wow, a forum with rules and moderators can do wonders to keep the forum at a certain standard. Sure, it can be open to anyone, but if moderators and such follow the rules, you weed out the bad apples real quick and allow for consistent adult conversation with the occasional splash of bad behaviour.

I've been moderating other forums(automotive related)for about 15 years. Moderators are expected to follow the rules and take care of anything that's in violation of those rules. CKA is run a different way, and that's fine.

CKA continually allows people to come in, stir the pot, act like an idiot and then eventually get banned. I don't see the need for allowing such behavior for so long when you know EXACTLY what their intentions are right from day 1.
