The most notable thing in this story is how people can get fired from their jobs for posting things on Facebook, YouTube, MySpace, and etc.

The something they didn't note here is that you can also be turned down for a job because of postings on the net.

If you start a blog dedicated to dsissing your company, you shouldn't be surprsied if your given your walking papers, even if you were doing it on your own time. Makes sense to me.

Funny how the only way to say what you want is to lie.

That is how businesses work these days. You have to lie and kiss ass if you want a promotion these days.

I was fired for an online posting last May. Also note that the article forgot to add. HR is also looking at credit scores for new recruits. If you have bad credit you can't get a job. Which I believe is unfair!

I am unable to find a good manager job again because of my damn credit score. Doesn't help that you can't pay bills because you don't have a job, but you can't get a job because you were unable to pay your bills.

Well on the plus side, the more ppl posting themselves being stupid on the net, the less competition there'll be for jobs

My 'company' has a very strict policy on social networks etc. For very good reasons. Also most companies in the same business check all social networks for new hires.

Luckily, you can keep yourself quite hidden.

True but there are silly people out there that don't use any of the privacy settings and then wonder why they are in trouble.

I don't use Facebook for very much other than keeping in contact with friends around the world and posting the occasional photo, but given that it posts a time for every update/activity you do, it can make you look really lazy/unproductive if someone watched your profile at all.

The easiest way to 'hide' on Facebook (if you want to), is to use a slightly different name from your legal one (like Bill instead of William of Dick instead of Richard), as well as making sure your privacy is set to the highest level possible. I'm also leery of accepting friend requests from people I work with.

Stupidest mistake people make is adding their bosses, and forget they did, then start complaining about them, or the jobs they are paid to do.

Too funny!

Myself I do not have a Facebook, Myspace, or Twitter at all. It's not just that I'm concerned about posting something today and having it judged, I'm also concerned about what I post today that may be deemed horribly offensive in years to come.

In my lifetime I remember people casually using terms like "Japs" and "ni**ers" and never imagining in their wildest dreams that what they said in the 1960's would haunt them years later.

Now all your writings are on the net and they exist in the now and it doesn't matter if you said it ten years ago - people will quote you as if you just said it.

Better not to be on the record saying anything at all.
