Okay, Now I'm pissed off at Medicine Hat again. For once I was a little proud of the city, for it's amazing work on Canada Day... but now the people of this shitty city have riled me yet again.
I hate my motherfucking Neighbours...
I was playing some backyard hockey (on grass, but in Ice Hockey format) with my little sister and I shot the ball through the fence (it's those wirey cross coiled fences).
So I had to go around and open their gate to get the ball back... And I noticed their garbage pile.
...
And recognized the top tip of a $1.99 Canadian Flag you can buy at Giant Tiger... Sticking through the side of the garbage bag. Immediately, I pulled the flag out of the trash... I wouldn't simply jsut let someone throw away a fucking flag. How disgraceful, my neighbours. Fucking pigs.
The flag was perfectly fine, aside from a very normal tear in the top corner. No trash on it at all. Nothing. Didn't even smell. Why was this thrown out?
Because these people aren't patriots. These people are only Proud on Canada Day.
THAT drills me. I should knock on their door and just punch the fuck who threw out this perfectly fine Canadian flag in the fucking face. Not 2 days after Canada Day and I'm already pissed off.
These people threw out this flag because they are only in Canada Day for the fun. it's not about being Canadian to them, it's about getting free shit and winning money, and of course, seeing fireworks. That's it. Every other day of the year, Canada is nothing.
If anything, this flag should have been burned in flag, no matter how much of a cheap "toy" it is. Don't just fucking throw it in the garbage. I can't imagine seeing the Red Maple Leaf surrounded by a bunch of trash in a trash yard in the middle of nowhere. But hell, i only got one of these flags, how many other Non-Patriots are there? Do you know any?
Personally, I'm not burning it. I'm keeping it with the rest of my Canada stuff. It currently is nicely positioned in a bowing type of format. The only problem is that tear.
Unlike these asshole Canada Day-only Patriot Wannabes, I'm proud all year round. I don't view Canada Day as just a fucking day off work or school.
Long Live Canada. And, Long Live Canadian Pride.

And I bet you, in America, they would never face such a problem. While many Americans are known to be blindly patriotic, they atleast know how to take care of a flag.
Atleast some Yanks celebrate their nation more then just one day a year.
While here...
Man I feel so violated and insulted. The greatest day ever was just bitchslapped by the hand of the Too Bothered to Care about Canada.

Actualy no if the "toy flag" is the type I'm thinking of many will just ditch them into the garbage come July 5th. Yet many kids from say age 5 through HS will keep them and have them in their rooms or what ever. Many do not consider them "real flags" and so wont go about proper disposal of them. I recall burning a flag with my dad back in the 70's he tought me the proper way on how the Flag should be treated.
My boss here at work is a real stickler for the proper treatment of the flag. He will take the worn out US flag home and burns it. His dad was a Marine color guard and man talk about guys that would go to war over any disrespect to the flag these are them.

Ugh, chillax already. It's just an object, being Canadian is more than a symbol. Don't fall for the shit.

Mr_Canada...i totally and whole heartily agree with you statements, the maple leaf tattoo on my chest burns when i hear of people disrespecting my flag.
Last Canada day I found a flag on the road, it had been run over a couple of times, probably flew off a cars window, that beautiful to this day hangs over my front door.
i have a question though....burning the flag?...isn't that the ultimate form of disrespect for a flag? i don't know, it's the first time i've heard of this and would love to hear the reason why this is kosher.
THE MAPLE LEAF FOREVER!!!!

There are far more "Un-Canadian" things to do than tossing a flag in the garbage. Like going up to someone and punching them in the face for throwing a flag in the garbage.
No one here knows why the flag was tossed and really it's none of our business. Could be covered in SARS!!

For the US. Flag I can give you a brief reason on it not sure if the Canadian flag is the same though.
If A U.S. flag touches the ground it means it's fallen and needs to be disposed of. The prober way to dispose of it is in a controlled burn, not done in the public eye and done out of respect and not with the intent of malice. The same should be done to any Flag that has become worn or frayed.
Thats just a quick break down of why and for what reason one should burn the US flag.

Well, I call it a toy flag simply because it's basically a car flag... That you can't put on a car. It's basically a 2 foot by 1 foot Canadian Flag... Attached to a wooden shaft with a cute plastic top making it look somewhat regal. Quote: No stories about just young Canadians who brag about how many times theyve burned the Stars and Stripes... Hey hey, this is about disrespecting the Canadian Flag, We can bring up something like that maybe tomorrow... THE MAPLE LEAF FOREVER!!!! Personally, i have never burned a single Canadian Flag... I really just can't bring myself to do it... I instead keep the flags, but if they are really damaged, I just store them away... Keep them. Even paper ones. Throwing anything with a Maple Leaf simply away just hurts. But burning the flag is commonly done to respect, instead of disrespect, the Canadian Flag( actually most flags), only when it's not necessary is it disrespectful, like in a protest. It makes a message, instead of being quietly disposed of. One of the best reasons for simply taking the flag and burning in in quiet, is so it DOESN'T end up in a dump anywhere, so you KNOW that the flag went respectfully. Care about important things, not about an object. Otherwise we'll end up like the US, subverting their own Principles for all the wrong reasons.

That's why Canada Day is the only patriotic day, Canadians are afraid to be patriotic!
It's annoying! Patriotism is NOT American! Americans use patriotism, but that should NEVER stop Canadians from using it too.
It's based on the thoughts that being Canadian means 'you are not American'.
Canadians don't want to look like Americans, so instead of abandoning television, movies, games, foods and such, they choose to abandon PRIDE.
The flag... It's just an object? No, it's a symbol. That's why flags are made, they are symbols of that country. otherwise, there would be no such thing as a flag. It's not just a bit of material on a twig, it's a chunk of pride on a stick.
The flag is a tool for pride, and it may just be a rag on a wooden pole, but it has a meaning of pride that should not be disrespected.
I, as a Canadian, though Anti-American, do not restrict myself from looking "American", I don't do it on purpose. I don't care what the Americans do. They can be proud all they want. So can I. I ignore Americans basically. I don't just wrath on them anymore, I really just ignore them and do my own Canadian thing.
Now, Blind American patriotism isn't blind because of their flag, it's blind because of lack of knowledge. Mostly by the young, they are war-hungry "U-S-A" chanting phycho's. They will insult other culture's they never heard of quickly and yell in their face that USA's number one. The won't be able to recall more then 20 states or all the words to "Star Spangled Banner" and probably think their flag has 48 stars.
That's not what I want.
What I want is a Canadians who are proud more then one day of the year. I want Canadians who'll say it in their homeland, not just when they are abroad. I don't want rude tourists are annoying jackass's, I just want Canadians to have an INCH of respect for this country.
But they won't because they are afraid of looking more American. This is also helping the assimilation of our culture. Canadian things being ridden of for American. And Canadians don't care. You know why? Because they are not proud.
So instead, Canadians are proud for one holiday. That is it, that is all. Otherwise, toss that silly cheap flag in the garbage. They'll do it without a second thought. And no one will care either. The fact that it's acceptable to toss pride in yhe trash is just heart-burning. Canadians for the rest of the year will probably only say something about Canadian Pride if it has to do with Dissing the USA. That's it. I don't want our only form of pride being that "we aren't the USA".
So I don't care if I look like an American if I proudly wave a rag on a stick, I'll still wave the fucking thing with pride for this country. Knowing what it stands for, and the many glories of it.
Long Live Canada, Long Live the Red Maple Leaf.
