The Canadian Tire Economy:
Canadian Tire builds ATM network

Canadian Tire ATMs will be money in (or out of) the bank.
Canadian Tire Automatic Teller Machines (ATM's) that dispense Canadian Tire money are being built across the country, from Victoria, British Columbia, to Glace Bay Newfoundland. Located inside Canadian Tire stores, Tim Hortons restaurants, and several independent skate sharpening shops, the new network will be competing head-on with Canada’s official currency (the Canadian Dollar).

Although Canadian Tire Money only has denominations from five cents to two dollars, the tenderly legal bills are physically smaller than regular Canadian bills, and much lighter than coins of the same denomination.

[Canadian Tire ATMs are part of a new initiative by Canadian Tire to leverage on existing customer loyalties. The ATM machines work with regular bank cards, with Canadian money accounts debited at par. Canadian Tire debit cards are also available for customers of Canadian Tire’s National Bank of Canadian Tire.

The Canadian Tire ATMs are already immensely popular in Alberta, where people are still seething about the loss of the Canadian one-dollar and two-dollar bills.

McTeer is quick to point out that the portrait on Canadian Tire money is not that of John A. MacDonald, Canada’s first prime minister, but Sandy McTire, his finance minister from 1867-1869 McTeer believes Canadian Tire money could easily outstrip use of official Bank of Canada tender in smaller communities within five years.

They do have Canadian Tire in QC.

Funny thing is.... heard somewhere that some hardcore separatists don't like the name cause it says Canadian.

They want it changed to reflect Quebec in the name.

Sounds pretty silly but anything to create a controversy or anything like that.

I was just thinking this after reading about that place in Edmonton letting people buy beer with CT money. The only problem is this currency is very easy to counterfeit. Even if they implemented more security features to their currency it will cost them more to produce and is it really even worth doing?
