I say we let him walk the streets and see what happens
TROIS-RIVIERES, Que. (CP) — A 35-year-old father accused of participating in an international child pornography network said he feels safer remaining in custody during the legal proceedings.
Lawyer Emmanuel Ayotte told Quebec court Judge Guy Lambert that his client feels safer remaining in jail.
The accused was arrested March 23 after being identified by police during a Canadian investigation.
The network was initially uncovered in Edmonton. The information was then sent to Toronto and Longueuil, Que.
Quebec provincial police in Longueuil believe they connected the Trois-Rivieres man to the network after analyzing material seized.
Children between one and 10 were seen on six hard drives, 55 compact discs and 10,000 computer files.
Crown prosecutor Marie-Eve Paquest said the accused was a key administrator in the network.
In March, Carl Treleaven, 49, of Edmonton, was sentenced to 3 1/2 years in jail after pleading guilty to possessing and distributing child porn.
He was part of a global child pornography ring that traded in explicit pictures and live streaming video, including acts of incest, bestiality and rape involving children.
The juvenile pornography network spread across five countries, including the United States, Britain and Australia.
